Wanted this ever since I first heard Eva Cassidy's heart-rending version. How I did not find this sooner I can't figure. I've paid my $10 and will savour the full lesson. Thanks for putting it up.

(On another subject - Sorry) Have you tried the Alnico 2s from Seymour Duncan. Would love to hear your playing with those PUs. They sound incredibly musical and have very low impedence so somehwat like those old toaster PUs Rickenbacker used. I had a set in a strat and it was one of the best sounding guitars I'd ever heard (why did I sell it?!)

No - just checked - and for the Telecaster they would be called "Alnico II Pro Tele". The ones I had were for a Strat and called "Alnico II Pro Staggered Strat". I bought them as I couldn't justify the cost of the Antiquities and in the end was extremely happy with the sound - sort of like a very old 50s Strat crossed with a toaster loaded Rickenbacker - very musical and ringy. It's easy to roll off some sparkle but very difficult to put it there through EQing the treble up. The quarter pounders are big Alnico 5 pole pieces and with a 14k resistance in the windings giving a very bluesy, thick, powerful signal. The AP2s were only 6.1k rather like the toaster PUs and as the Alnico 2 is a little less powerful the combination gives you loads of sparkle - like you can actually hear all the windings on the string (?). AP2s for Tele are 6.3 and 8 bridge and neck.

Yep - but those would have cost what the guitar cost me to buy in the first place - it was a 1985 Tokai Strat - played and sounded amazing when not plugged in - hence the PU change and huge result. The guy who showed me what a Tokai could be actually had those Antiquities installed - quick change of plan when I realised what three PUs would have cost (Yike!!) - wasn't too worried about Seymour's signature on them a while back when he used to sign all Antiquities - the AP2s sounded pretty much the same as far as I could hear.

Hi Tim, hope you don't mind, & its not critic' but observation, your individual single strings don't seem to sing out like they did on your earlier guitar & pick-up set. Your early stuff had nice rich deep sound-( I've gone back & listened-all great stuff !! & thanks for posting . )but each string was more distinct & clear.. might be me, ..but just thought I'd mention it, with no offence.

Thanks for your observation. This guitar with these pickups is what I have been using for years but in this video it is tuned to standard pitch so that might contribute to what you are hearing. also since this is an accompaniment I may be emphasizing the ringing out of melodies in order to create a more suitable support for a singer. I could also be that I had the amp set a little darker for some reason. Oh well
