You are so correct. I am 64 and we were crazy for stock car racing, but it is such a 'contrived' mess now that I will watch anything on TV but a Nascar race. From the stupidity of 'stage racing' to the silliness of the endless 'red flags' and 'green-white-checkers', the so-called sport didn't need a truly boring roster of drivers, but it ended up with that as well. Nascar is such a joke that the inept fools that run it cannot even come up with a decent race car!

Always a Harry fan, but enjoyed Tim & his passion for Winning the race or even just for the pole. He was an asset to the sport of NASCAR. I'm not sure anybody had the hunger he had. Had Tim stayed healthy, I'm not sure if the 3 car could have won 7 titles.

I am a Dale Earnhardt fan and I will have to say I agree with your post. Tim Richmond was a huge threat to Dale Earnhardt winning 7 titles. ..because during this time, he is suspected of possible drug abuse. said by Richard Petty. Nascar began to mess with tim and his team frequently. petty and earnhardt both had something to say about it. yes even dale back crawled, kind of weird thinking back..at how dale befriended tim richmond, then turned his back on him. then...when they found out he had HIV..Nascar and drivers were doing everything thing they could to distance themselves from tim richmond. this is one of them times at the beginning of the harassment. Tim Richmonds problem was he whored around way to much with the party crowd, and thats what was his stumbling block..drivers all knew this, and owners of teams. i believe some nasty skank with hiv, was paid to have sex with tim. to take him out. Richmonds wins, and top 5 finishes were adding up...he was in contention for the Championship..but was an embarrassment. then Whamy. it all came crashing down that fast. Nascar implicated Richmond and had a special drug advisor Dr Forest Tennant create a drug policy with Richmond in mind. Tennant later confesses that Nascar planed this all along. to ban richmond form nascar racing.

Most of what you stated is true ( probably all of it, but the set-up part would be near impossible to prove ) & while I loved Tim Richmond, I alway's totally understood Richard Petty's grievance with Tim. For decades already in that era, driver's took they're lives in their hand's everytime they crawled thru the window of those fire breathing death traps! None, not one ( well maybe DK ) ever wanted to be on-track racing anyone who may be on drug's & let's face it, Tim alway's looked to be having a "real good" time. Tim took the vow to his grave, that he never did cocaine & since no one, not The King, nor NASCAR EVER PROVED otherwise, I'll take Richmond's word for it, but I totally got where Richard was coming from 🙏 RIP TR, for you are LEGEND ✝️ As for Earnhardt, there was a HUGE difference between the guy you saw on TV & the REAL guy when no one was watch'n. The few guy's that could match Sr's Wheelman talent had aged out by 1985, Petty, Pearson, Allison & Cale could all match Dale in their prime, but by 85 only Tim could look The Intimidator dead in his eye & not blink, Dale Sr absolutely knew that, so I certainly believe there is some merit to what you say concerning Dale.

I thought if you got the black and white stripe, they no longer scored you (you are DQ'ed). I was expecting he would've had to park it. You're going to get in trouble if you ignore flags, they are for safety, even if there is a screw up. They can correct a lap penalty (allow the car to do a drive-by, which I think I've seen them do), but if you take it out of their hands.
