These puzzles suddenly made me recall one of the mysteries in a Japanese detective comic series titled "Case Files of Young Kindaichi" where the characters discover six mummified corpses who were victims of a house fire, all of them mysteriously are missing some body parts. The protagonist later solves the mystery and reveals that the corpses were actually deliberately dismembered and rearranged from five victims to make it looked like there were six corpses altogether, when in fact the sixth victim actually survived the house fire.

12:26 That looks like it could be a plot device in a horror film. Eight children go out, only seven come back. The returning children are eerily different, somehow.
