Well, the guardian has apologized for stating the wrong number of deaths “6,500”. These are the number of total deaths many of which were not related to the world cup. Sadly there were 3 deaths related to the world cup & its sad to see how many independent channels have taken the numbers from un official sources.

I looked it up and haven't found any retraction from the Guardian. The Qatar Government Communications Office also has not denied the number, but said that "Although each loss of life is upsetting, the mortality rate among these communities is within the expected range for the size and demographics of the population." Which is total BS because the average mortality rate for a country their size would be 10x less than what has occured in the last decade. The idea that people are criticising Qatar exclusively because of cultural or religious bias is inane. Wouldn't matter if it was Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Germany, or the US. Thousands of lives crushed under a machine designed to broadcast football games is unconscionable and repugnant.
