Solo camping and camp cooking in sub zero temperatures can be challenging if you aren't prepared.
Frozen puddles start the day on this high elevation solo camping in the Vic High Country.
After 3 days in this pristine location with very frosty mornings and the relaxing sounds of the local bird life, i didn't want this solo camping trip to end.
I have been on a lot of solo camping trips over many years, and i really enjoy camping out in sub zero temperatures.
I have set up my solo camping base, right beside the upper reaches of the Buchan River at Native Dog Flat Camping Ground.
Native Dog Flat Camping Ground is located in the Vic High Country, about an hour out from the tiny remote country town of Omeo.
It is a beautiful spot to camp at any time of year, but during Winter this high elevation location is a magnificent spot to set up for your solo camping trip. Just maybe this location might become your best solo camping trip.
All of my meals are cooked on the camp fire. Bush style cooking at it's best.
It was very quiet and while i sat beside my camp fire, i had the amazing sounds of the local birds and frogs, with the tranquil sounds of running water echoing out from the Buchan River.

Imo this is why you have a 4wd. Forget all the hardcore "action" just enjoy what mother nature has to offer. I will send a link to this video to my brother and bil so that if I am ever able to travel to Victoria, and return more importantly, this place will be on the list of must do's. A very nice video, thanks mate.

19 years old, I often take my GU out for camping and 4wding with friends for a couple of days, or just go out for a day to hit the harder tracks. I watched the entire video, and it really inspired me to give some solo camping a go, just gotta find the right spot now. Nice work on the cinema photography, your extra effort definitely shows in the final product. Keep up the awesome work Tim. From your younger audience 👍

I enjoy solo camping or with my dog where allowed. Also cold country areas. Have you ever considered a roof top tent? They are ready in a few minutes and great if it's raining or snowing, as you leave your mattress and bedroll inside so it is dry and warm. also being off the ground keeps you off the path of runoff from heavy rain. Tim , another enjoyable video.Love the bird and flowing river sounds. Showing us places that we can look forward to exploring. I drive an AWD SUV, a tad restrictine, but this area looks accessible. Not keen of fording fast flowing rivers with 210 mm ground clearance and no skid plate or winch. Safe travels.

I wish i could take a dog, but it's hard with the National Parks. Roof Top tents isn't really for me for a couple of reasons. Firstly they take up all my roof rack space and secondly is the weight factor. Im looking into tents at the moment. Thank you for your feedback, this was an amazing trip and the local environment sounds are so relaxing. You would need to be careful with the vehicle you have. But, look the spot for this video. No 4wd required. Stunning alpine area. Cheers Tim.

Oh Tim, how good is this! God knows if I needed to see a bit of great solo camping! I do enjoy go solo especially in winter and on the snow. It is just magnificent out there. Very nice video mate, I'm sure it is much needed for lots of campers in Melbourne at the moment, so thank you very much for taking the time to go out there and sharing this awesome few days you had. Cheers

Nothing better than Solo Camping. Ive been heading out during the week lately to avoid the crowds. Last trip was amazing with no one around, Currawongs, Frogs and a small waterfall to listen to all day and night. No hoons, No party goers, No anything but the sounds of nature.

26:10 . . . that's where you should have your *fly rod*, Timmy. A 'wee broon troot' for breakfast would really give you cause to say, "Have a look at that". Gently fried, whole, in that pan of yours and it would come up a treat and taste a treat too. Alright, I know you got yourself a spinning rod #cough#, but that little corner of the stream is just the place to make it all happen. Go on, Timmy, show us your trout cooking skills . . . you know you want to . . . 😃
