Top notch work Matty. The new upcycled cladding looks great. Cannot wait to see the system fully planted out.

Thanks mate. I’ll be adding the fish in about 4 to 5 weeks time once the system has fully cycled. Cheers

Great work, Matty! Love how it turned out!! And thanks a lot for the tip to secure the batons directly to the cage of the ibc.

Apocalypse style hehe. The only way I got AP past the wife was to put up recycled timber panels to hide the "science experiment" Great job on the cladding!

Had ya neighbours ask what ya up to yet? Mine asked, was easier to tell em I'm a doomsday prepper than try to explain it all 🤣
@mattysbackyard92442 жыл бұрын
Lol. Yeah mate, I was building my first one when they first moved in so I was able to explain it all to them over the fence. I do use the terminology Doomsday Prepper on occasion though. 😆

@@mattysbackyard9244 I did try to explain, but lost them half way through... I think they just believe I'm a nutter 🤣

Matte as always you are the energiser bunny. Keep it up mate. I’m working on a similar idea.... not for aqua ponies however, but grey water treatment.....I’d be interested in hearing about specific plants that actually draw a lot of nutrient out of your systems. Otherwise keep up the great work and content

I used to make mine pretty, until a bed caved in... If I didnt have it clad I would have seen the issue a lot sooner, instead of the aftermath of a bed caving in and wiping out the sump. I've kept it apocalypse style since haha. and it gives me the freedom to change the style/types of media beds to suit seasons without having to tear the system to bits.
@mattysbackyard92442 жыл бұрын
Your system is still quite pretty though mate! 😂👍🏼

@@mattysbackyard9244 Thats putting it nicely 😂Mines a goer not a show'er haha.
@mattysbackyard92442 жыл бұрын
@@owensfunhouse7582 😂 seriously though mate. Your system is definitely not as apocalyptic as some. And it’s definitely a goer! I’m wanting to try dual root zones come spring. Looking at trying it with a few chilli plants.

I am glad you have made this. We have just had an awful algae outbreak. The lid used was a large chipboard piece. With open section for feeding. We have pallets but not as nice as yours. But this will definitely help us fix the algae problem. Your beds look amazing Matty. Well done. Also the base of pallets make fantastic balance beams for young children. We have used them for our kids obstacle courses. How are your quail going? Our chickens are enjoying the maggot feeder. There yolks have turned a richer yellow.

What is the maggot feeder. Do you save money on feed?

Mate thats pretty, can you do my system, naw actually i like the space look, my are clade with silver underfloor paper, but next time humm i might..if there is a next time.. learnt some thing... a pallet fits onto of the fish tank,. which is perfect for a 200l barrel into for a powerless water pump.. like it.... like the cladding bring on the fishies.. thumbs up

Very interesting mate. I’m keen to see how you pull it off with the blue barrel on top of the fish tank. 👍🏼😀

HI Matty - Thanks for the video. your systems looks great. I plan to mimic your system and see how it works for us. I got few questions. Will you be painting those timbers? the reason I'm asking is that I used them (for another project) as it is from pallets and it kind of turned black after an year. also my pest inspector was not happy on them directly touching the ground as it might invite termite. how to protect the aquaponic from termites.. thanks
@JadeGardner-zu8ye Жыл бұрын
Looks awesome Matty, was that a corflute sheet that you used for the floating bed??

So the fish can't breed in that system, because the eggs get sucked in?
@mattysbackyard92442 жыл бұрын
No, the fish won’t lay eggs in the system because they don’t breed in Aquaponics at all. We buy them from local hatcheries here in Australia
@rafak52 жыл бұрын
I did not know that thank you for the info

How do you protect the timber in regards to the elements? I only ask cause I live in a climate that gets a bit hot during the summer.
