Timber Hawkeye (best-selling author of Buddhist Boot Camp and Faithfully Religionless) details his life’s journey after having an enlightened experience. He explains why he left his solid corporate job and comfortable life to strip himself of all possessions, moved to Hawaii where he survived on just $7k per year, studied psychology and world religion, and built a world of being of service to others. Timber discusses how he was able to achieve freedom through simplifying his life and valuing time rather than following society’s recipe for happiness. Mayim and Timber examine the cognitive dissonance that stems from the vicious loop of internal conflict, the importance of aligning our actions with our values, using nonviolent communication to identify unmet needs, and ways we may identify as victims.
Mayim breaks down how the brain physically changes after having an enlightened moment and the isolation that comes with setting high standards for others.

I'm 44 years old and have moved into an RV and reduced my living expenses to a minimum so I can spend my money traveling the world, one country at a time (4 countries and counting). It's the BEST thing I've ever done! We only have one lifetime to experience the planet we live on, and it's a MIRACULOUS planet!☺🗺✈

This episode found me at the best time possible. I was looking for a job - I got it, but was asked to stay part - time in the old one. I stayed for a bit, and then began torturing myself - should I stay longer, just because of loyalty, the time I invested here, additional money.. Sunday I went for a run, took Mayim and Jonathan, and Timber to keep me company. By the end of my run - I had my answers: I never wanted to work two jobs. Old job is my "toxic relationship", it is what hurts me. I have to get out. I started with my paperwork yesterday. Thank you! (P.S. Don't make decisions just because a podcast told you, guys! But this one let me hear myself better - what I have been saying for years now.)

These wonderful tidbits really jumped out for me: * Mindfulness doesn't make people less irritating, it makes Us Less Irritable. (I need to work on this one!) * I'm not stuck in traffic, I am the traffic. (We are part of the whole.) - I have a grasp on this one :-) * When we say No to something, we say Yes to something else! - That's an excellent perspective! * Our Responsibility = Our Ability to Choose our Response (It can be such a struggle, but I like how this is framed.)

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! I had never heard of Timber prior to this, so thank you for the introduction. I found him to be very interesting, and like most people who are that enlightened and insightful, he has discovered how to utilised the metaphor to bridge the gap between his knowledge on a topic and those who are unfamiliar with that topic. An invaluable tool, the metaphor. Also, he seems to exude a glow and warmth that I could feel through my TV set. Not sure if he realises that he does that, but I'd love to feel it in person lol.

I turned down a 115k/yr job that would've given me no leisure time/personal life for a 55k/yr job where I work only 3 days a week and still get the same work perks and benefits. Does the job I chose suck at times? Sure. But man, having a set schedule and ALWAYS having 4 days a week off, AND still having 5 weeks of PTO a year is priceless. We can plan kid vacations well. When we take off, we can plan our couple vacations a year in advance. And I make up income in my extended weekends because I Can joyfully get back to my moneymaking hobbies.

How Timber’s words resonates on me! I, as many young “ecumenical” Catholic Catalans, at 18 y-o (now I’m in my 60’s) spent a summer working as a volunteer at a secular kibbutz. It was such a rewarding and fabulous experience ending your days so “beautifully” tired. The solidarity I learnt there. The real meaning of the word “community”. I’d learnt there and then the frugal life ethics that has accompanied me and lead me to live in line with my values since then. And the stunning thing was that this experience leads me to live my Catholic faith better, in the essential way that the own Jesus lived and His own message in Gospel is.

This came at the perfect time! We get so caught up in what we should be or should want that we forget to ask ourselves if we're happy. So much to think about! Also, in theory, you're both right. You have to accept that there is a counter point to what you believe. My personal belief is that you can never be a 10 on the self actualization scale because there is so much you don't know. AND you don't know what you don't know so you must be open to all experiences. Love you guys!!! You're my people! 💖

This was an inspiring interview with a fascinating person but unfortunately it continued after Timber was gone. He would have had a field day watching Mayim mock Jonathan about his own self-awareness. First mock him and then dismiss his response as nonsense. His response was an honest guy's answer...he needs time to think and then return to whatever the "talk" is. ..something like that. This is something anyone in a relationship with a man should understand...women think at warp speed about multiple things...men do not. Men focus on one thing at a time, period. To expect a man to react or respond like a woman is like expecting an apple to taste like a banana. Things just dont work that way.

Thank you for saying this. Mayim is often very dismissive and rude to Jonathan, and her ego is obnoxious. I think it’s overcompensating on Mayim’s part. She has a lot of self esteem issues and so she feels the need to attack and put down others, especially Jonathan constantly.

Yes. Any time we say, "You made me feel...", is a time showing we gave our sovereignty, power, energy, or the responsibility of it to someone else or in someone else's hands with an attached expectation; usually for them to fill an unmet need we may or may not realize, while we would be far happier and healthier finding ways to fulfill ourselves. Yet so much of this is subconscious. Mindful relationships, and looking back on our relationships when we weren't mindful, helps us become conscious and aware of these things. And not just in ourselves, but in others as well.

Three things: first, I want to be best friends with Mayim. Second, I could listen to Timber talk forever. Third, Mayim is a very devout Jewish woman and to my knowledge (please correct me if I'm wrong) a Jewish person can't be buried in a Jewish cemetery if they have a tattoo, which I just learned Mayim has. Before I go any further, I want to give a HUGE shout-out to Mayim Bialik for her new role in the TV game show, Jeapordy. I know how much she loves the show and enjoyed her guest appearance so I am hopeful that she is happy with this opportunity. Of course, it is disappointing that it took a backlash for it to occur, but she is there none-the-less. On the bright side, hopefully her new role will allow her time, energy (and most importantly) sanity, to continue with her podcast and filming of Call Me Kat. Mayim, you continue to give and my greatest hope is that you are able to feel the love and respect that all of your followers feel for you.

7:27 Psyched! Coffee on the lanai and ready to go! Thanks Mayim and Jonathan. What a way to start the day. Finished the podcast. Lots of food for thought and help for the situation I'm in today. Watching again and taking notes.

I know, she has all that time before and after the guest to talk. Listening is valuable skill that can lead to great discovery.

Some people were upset that Mayim talked too much. However, I found that she had interesting things to say. She also helped to me to understand what Timber had gone through to get to where he is today. I enjoyed the conversation on all sides.

"our thoughts, our words and our actions have to be in alignment, and so, we can't say, oh, we want to live in a world with less violence and then go drop $15 to watch a movie with a lot of violence in it because we are thereby contributing to a more filmmakers making more movies about violence. and then we are creating this internal struggle within us. we say one thing but we do another and we DON'T SEE THE CONNECTION." this is why i am vegan. Well done!!! I lived in a caravan as a child, while it was parked. My parents ended never going on holiday....😢too busy making money, so up to today, I would like the exact same way. Caravan home, guess is better for Africa, Tiny homes are so cool, and travel... I travel too, yest share a large home with my husband 😊, my heart is still in a smaller space, so I made one room in the house my "tiny home" and keep it simple, the heart wants what it wants... simplicity and freedom, even though"i have it all"

I very much appreciate Timber's sharing. As a newly retired person, I am experiencing how much different things are financially. I have scaled down and would like to do more. I would like to know how Timber will live later with no money saved.

I am so glad that Mayim Bialik is the host of Jeopardy. Glad to see an enlightened, high intelligent and successful female role model take the lead. Superb actress, academic and enlightened individual. Great role model!

It is important to differentiate anger as a driving cause for separation versus acknowledgement of something harmful as the driving cause for forced separation. It is equally important to be aware that sometimes a close family member will restrict childrens' access to extended family out of purely narcissistic reasons.
