Boats are creatures that promise adventure. A friend of mine who is a well known naval architect and owns a company that builds high speed ferries once told me, the smaller the boat the more you use it. Since he said that, I have worked out that the more you use it the more adventure is realised. Your beautiful boat is big enough.,

Really enjoyed the tour of your neighbours schooner. Total respect for Nick as a single hander on a vessel of this size. The bronze winch Nick most generously gave you is a beautiful piece of kit. I'm single handing a 38ft ketch, currently in Moreton Bay, with a plan to follow the sun north in the next weeks. Maybe I will come across you and your beautiful ship, Narwahl one of these days. Many thanks for your video.

@@TheGeordietheWitchandtheWench So you've decided upon traveling up through the Broadwater... Nice one. I've done it a couple of times using the main channel and it's pretty much a no brainer. Whichever way you choose to go, Canaipa Psg or the main channel, use the rising tide. When you say... "you'd like to pull out Narwahl" Are you thinking about hauling out at Redland Bay Marina? If so, please contact me via my email ( tubetime05@hotmail.com ) before you depart the Gold Coast. I have some useful / important info for you, if that is your intention. Brissy River is a pretty cool place to visit given you can park your boat right in the city. When I have anchored there, I have done so just upstream of the pile moorings. Pretty good holding there in mud at around 5mtrs of water, approx 50mtrs of the northern bank. Moreton Bay is good to sail and explore. There are a few good anchorages about the place to hide from strong wind, most of which are concentrated in the southern end of the bay. I'm in Raby Bay at the mo, good in wind from West to SE and very good holding in mud. Raby is excellent for going ashore for supplies, to get fuel, gas etc. Raby has it's own little harbour with a public pontoon which is situated mtrs from a major shopping precinct. There are a couple of little tricks about Raby that I can share with you via email. Tangalooma is a great place to visit in the right conditions. It's good in light wind from all directions (5-10kts) however it's a pretty open spot so it can be a dogs breakfast in moderate to strong wind. East wind and just north and south of east is ok in mod to stronger wind, but that's about it. Theres good holding all around the place in sand. The most protected spot is between the wrecks and the beach, but also the busiest, specially on the weekend. I've been hanging around these parts (Moreton) generating some moola for a little while now, so I've managed to learn a bit about my current surroundings. I've also single handed the East coast up to Cairns a couple of times, so I can share some tip bits on that region too. If you haven't cruised the East Coast of Oz before... Man, you're definitely in for a treat.... It's a sailors paradise.

I' ve been using Deks for many years great stuff, and the best part, no sanding, just paint or wipe on a new coat. She will look fantastic when you have done the woodwork with it. His schooner is a wonderful looking vessel, I'm not sure I would want to single-handed operate that, but it would make for a lovely cruising yacht.

Great video Simon! Little trick for you... get one very good brush not synthetic, natural. Hang it in a jar of linseed oil with just the bristles submerged. Customize your lid so it fits tight over the brush with a string holding it suspended. You’ll need a shortish brush and a tallish jar for this. You can use the same brush for oil and varnish and just hang it in the jar each time without even really cleaning it much it will last forever and you will enjoy oiling and varnishing more! I ran a 70 foot schooner short handed can be done with the help of mechanics especially everything must be strong and oversized for the job.

High Sid, good remark "is it a starter motor" its actually possible i'have seen it done, watch out for water offcourse but it might be a solution for your anchorwinch. However you should do something about a proper alining so the anchorchain can " flow in" into the locker. Regards Michiel.
