I have both Timber Wolf blades and a Wood Slicer that I use on my Grizzly G0513X2 17" saw. The Wood Slicer is as good as Highland's advertising says. However, I also have several Timber Wolf blades, from 1/8" to 3/4" and have never experienced the problem show in this video. Something had to be terribly wrong with the setup to have the difficulty shown here.

I've used Timber Wolf blades for years and I love them. If my blade cut like the one in this video, I'd throw it away and get a new blade.

Update! I just got 3/16" and 3/8" Timberwolf blades and they cut great. I'm with Sam yousif below in the comments, I think this guy had his blade on with the teeth upside down. Original comment: I don't buy this for a minute. Look at reviews on Amazon and other people who have used TImberwolf. If this was representative of how their blades cut they'd be out of business in a hurry. Something stinks here.

He is jamming the wood into the blade with the fence. Since he did a video on how to change the blade while installing the Wood Slicer and removed the table, he obviously set the table up much better for the second blade. Timber Wolf would not be in business if they shipped blades that bad.

I just replaced a blade on my Grizzly 14" band saw with a Timber Wolf 3 tpi x 3/4" blade and it cut through a 24/4 x 20" long piece of cherry like butter. Either your Timber Wolf blade was used, since you said it had rust on it or you're very biased. I have used Timber Wolf blades on my 14" and 17" inch band saws for years and love them. I build furniture and use my saws everyday. You may want to do a comparison with two NEW blades next time.

Sorry to have to disagree, but I just did the same sort of cut with figured maple. My results were very similar to those in this video (my post is above). Unless I got a bad TW blade the review is for real (and since I've had this kind of performance with every other 1/2 "resawing" blade I've tried, I don't think my TW blade was a "lemon.")

@@williamaustin8364 What blade do you have? I use a 3/8" 4tpi Timber Wolf blade and a comparable piece of cherry would cut about 3 times faster than the Timber Wolf in this video, doesn't really add up? Every TW blade I have purchased has been very sharp right out of the box. Assuming you have a blade designed for thicker stock and it cuts like the one in the video I would contact TW.

@@shawnh08 The TW is a 1/2" 4TPI. A more useful question would be what bandsaw/what motor HP. It's a Ridgid (underpowered at 1/2 HP, I know) set up with kool blocks instead of the original mystery-metal blocks it came with. I have retuned the saw, completely balanced the wheels (both statically and dynamically), replaced the original tires, added the riser, etc.. Basically the saw runs far better than it did "out of the box," but while my other TW blades have been excellent, the one I was comparing to the wood slicer was not. I took it back to Woodcraft and complained, and they replaced it, but the results were the same. My suspicion is that the Highland Hardware folks just came up with a far superior blade and that would account for the speed differences between the two blades. Differences I have observed - this is after repeating the original test and also trying the same 2 blades with (a) 4x8 yellow pine, (b) 3"x4Q purpleheart, and a piece of old 6/4 cherry I've had lying around for at least the last 7 years. The differences that were repeatable as as follow below. With the wood slicer, and comparing it to the TW only: 1) I get a much smoother cut. 2) The WS cuts finish complete more quickly than with the TW blade. 3) The WS blade doesn't feel nearly as hot as the TW after the cut. 4) Finally the saw runs noticeably more quietly with than it does with the (this particular) TW blade. FWIW having used 2 of these TW blades, they are ALL noticeably louder than any of the other TW (1/4, 3/8 - 5 blades with different TPI's) blades and I would not be surprised that if that difference noise level with this TW blade was due to a resonance phenomenon of this blade with my saw and its setup. Also my oldest TW blade (1/4" 3 TPI) cuts faster than this 1/2" blade FWIW. But it is still slower (and a bit rougher) than the WS blade. I hope that answers your questions. I like TW and will consider to buy and use their blades. I just found something that beats my TW blade in several areas.

@@williamaustin8364 Thanks for the reply! Just to be clear my position isn't that TW blades are better than WS blades in anyway. I'm only saying that my comparable TW blade cuts MUCH faster than the one in this video, in my opinion his TW blade is dull, backwards, or defective. And yes if you have an under powered bandsaw that doesn't run very good that may be a big factor, but on any decent bandsaw the blade matters much more than the saw in my opinion. I have a 17" Grizzly 2hp bandsaw myself and it runs silky smooth & very quite but the stock blade was terrible out of the box and was pretty much useless for anything over about 6 quarter. Running proper blades for the application and making sure they are sharp makes a massive difference.

The thing I don't like about timber wolf is even when setup low tension as they recommend; they do not track well. They wobble (front to back movement). My guess is its the heat treating of the blade across its width. I did notice that a lot talk about their poor tracking on sites. I use lenox blades and never tried the wood cutter. That is quite a difference in cutting .

There had to be more going on with the TW blade than just a little rust. You could have filed through it with any Emory board faster than that.

Art, I'm with you..I've tried them all and nothing really beats the blades from Highland for re-sawing. The Timber Wolf blades are ok but on all counts,,,length of duty, speed of cut the blades from Highland counts in my book.. I also found that using cool blocks is worth the $20 bucks...

Ha. Now we know what a dull blade does when someone is trying to ignore all the signs of a dull blade. The Grizzly blades do a good job as well. I just bought two 1" wide by 2tpi today. Resawing 11.25" Red Oak right out of the 4' long log. Fun stuff found on KZbin!

I'm pretty surprised how poorly the timber wolf performed. I have a 1" 6tpi timber wolf blade .... or at least I thought it was. It cuts quite well, and I've resaw some fairly wide, maybe 6-8" walnut with it and it cut much faster than the 4tpi timber wolf you have. I'm starting to wonder if maybe my blade isn't actually a timber wolf and I was just mistaken .... thanks for the video.

It's ALL about TPI Teeth Per Inch, resaw blades have to have HUGE gullets and less teeth to carry away the saw dust. If the blade has too many teeth and small gullet the sawdust clogs the blade, slows the cut and can overheat and warp and wander and and and. 1 tooth per inch or LESS.

agreed it sounded like it was just slapping the wood with wet noodles instead of teath. idk if I"d even continue a cut if it started like that for fear of the thing overheating and snapping off, and chewing up your setup.

Something just doesn't seem right with the timber wolf blade. It should've cut way better and faster than that. It is a dud for sure or used to death. I just bought one and tested it against a 6tpi grizzly blade , which isn't resaw blade but it was one that came with my riser kit and only one I had. the grizzly just didn't work at all. The TW was way better cut fast accurate and smooth in some really old hard yellow pine. I plan to test it on something harder but just seems like you got a dull used blade or something. Was it really new out of the package? I know mine would cut that cherry faster than that. One thing I don't like about my new TW 3tpi 1/2" blade is the weld seam was a little funky, as in it had excess bulk on both sides of the joint and what almost feels like a slight twist as well. I tried to sand it out which fixed the bulk issue but there is still a slight twist or divet. I have to say it is very sharp and cut great though. How is the weld joint on your TW? I'm trying to weed out vibration on my saw and this could be another issue so it might just go back to the store and I may try the wood slicer instead. How is the weld on the wood slicer? I know its been a year since you posted this but do you still like the wood slicer? Thanks.

It was a new blade, there is another video out there that shows that straight out of the package the Timber Wolf needs sharpening. As far as the weld It's not to bad, at least on the 1/2" one. I had a 1/4" one break at the weld. The Wood Slicer has a nice weld but I wound say that it is a lot better. I have had no luck at all with Grizzly blades. Either band saw or table saw. I consider Grizzly a another Harbor Freight with better advertising,

@@artpfenninger5914 - Something doesn't add up. I saw this review as I am considering a Wood Slicer blade. I do have experience with TW blades, my general purpose blade is a 3/8" 4tpi TW on my 17'" Grizzly bandsaw and even after cutting multiple 100's of BF my little 3/8" TW blade would cut MUCH faster than your brand new TW blade. I don't work with Cherry much but when my blade was new my feed rate for resawing 6" walnut would be very similar to your experience with the Wood Slicer (in terms of speed). All my TW blades have came RAZOR sharp out of the box, but of course they do dull overtime. Looks like you were sold a used blade or you used it to cut metal before this review? In any case, I can can say with absolute certainty this isn't what someone should expect from a new TW blade. Grizzly sells some incredible bandsaws for the price but I do agree with you on basic Grizzly bandsaw blades, they are absolute garbage. Your experience with the TW blade is exactly how my Grizzly blade cut out of the box.

In another comparison test of many resaw blades, the Timberwolf was a close second to the Wood Slicer. It was not chosen if it cut like yours. Was that Timberwolf actually a resaw blade? Was it thicker than .025? Something is fishy with your results. If you want followers, I suggest you go back to the drawing board.

Why do you even have this video up? There is very obviously something wrong here. That would be ridiculous if TW blades were that bad. They have a good reputation for a reason. They are actually quite good. Do you really think your one test negates all the positive reviews out there. You don't even cover the TPI, hook, width, etc. There is something else going on here. Have some integrity and take down this video.
