Given that you placed stairs down into the river, that would make it really easy to add many more water wheels. Even without them, I feel it would be better to use water power to make planks where possible. That new area you flooded does look to have a deep area highly suitable for more water pumps with access from around the side of your housing. You might not even need any platforms to get the first one in.

I was indeed thinking that I could stack a nice 3X3 grid of water wheels in our reservoir. That should up our production, at least during the wet season. The new lake does have a nice deep area. I think we're already on the right level with our housing, as you say. Just need to get the population growing at the right rate now!
