She's definitely a keeper. Shares hard work instead of whining about her nails...and for an old woodworker it's pretty nice to see how you guys handle that pretty big logs.

I stumble across this while looking for ideas to do with a 160ft Doug fir I just had taken down on my property. I also have several Maples that have to come down. As a retired disabled Vet in his first home it's great to see someone trying new adventures and taking problems as they occur as opportunity to problem solve vs failure. You guys rock.

I learned the hard way in the '70s when kind farmer said help yourself to the trees in that paddock for firewood - good hardwood trees along a defunct fenceline. Yep! Nice new 020 chainsaw found old rusty No8 wire, quite a lot of it. People use trees for all kinds of unparliamentary purposes! Once bitten twice very shy.

Hi guys. Nice new channel. I picked bushcrafting last year again and also startded woodworking again this year. Very nice vids you make. Been vieuwing your vids for over a year now. (Outdoor vids) About the milling. You guys ever heard of COPD? Beeing exposed to fine dust for years can cost health problems in your old years. So please guys put on dust mask with 3D filters. And maybe when gutting in the logs with the chainsaw used a full face mask because of the steel bolts or nails you might encounter. Be save out there and keep watching each others back. Greatings from Germany. Ciao. Vince

When you hit the bolt, it brought back memories. After cutting down some firewood in a forest, then into sections, noticed something shiny on the inner cut surface. WTF... I'd cut a rifle bullet in half... what are the the chances of that? So it happens to the best of us! lol Nice wood!!

Nice slabs of wood. I wish I had some slabs like that. They make awesome tables after you cut them and glue them together. And the live edges really compliment a table. Beautiful wood. You could have sold that to a guitar maker for a fortune. Maple makes excellent guitar necks.

I am wondering if, prior to milling, would it be prudent to run a metal detector over the log rather than just plowing ahead and ruining blades and avoiding the downtime it creates. Just a thought.
@TimberMates2 жыл бұрын
We had a metal detector, it didn't;t work past about 1 inch down at the most, so they are pretty much useless. Blades aren't as costly as you think though. It's just part of the game really.
