If it’s anything like U.K. time attack it’s to keep costs down between events, slicks are a damn site more expensive than radial tires and they also have a much smaller window where they perform optimum, most slicks you’d get a few hot laps in a downforce car before you’re past the best and then it’s £1000 plus for a fresh set :(

@@jongillies4871 I can only guess it is because of the sponsorship of the event, but it looks like a mismatch to me. Those cars in open class and above look like no costs have been spared on them at all. They also have little relevance to any street car. I can't see how tyres that only last that short are worthy. Boring spectacle too limiting the competitive window.

Yeah i agree, its a time attack culture thing to run on road tyres. But fastest cars are pretty much tube frame silhouette cars anyway, so makes little sense to use a road tyre with the risks involved. The cost difference is not so big, the fast guys aren't exactly using the tyres for that many heat cycles. And the yokos aren't exactly cheap either.
