Don't know how it is in NZ, but in most of the rest of the world, "Bleed Out" means they die.

The storyline is super deceiving. It said the Time Bandit crew bled out. First of all when someone bleeds out they die. Only one crew member was hurt and he did not even lose conciseness. Phillip Hillstrand returned to the deck to continue working after his Dad Captain Jonathan checked him out.

"Bleeding out" in medical terminology means that the patient hemorrhaged to death, usually when a major vein or artery is severed. An example where the person bled out was when a shark bit a man on the thigh, it severed the femoral artery, a major artery that can cause a quick death. Blood does not clot easily in the ocean's salt water, if at all, so by the time that they get the victim to shore, they have usually lost so much blood that they die. One instance that was fortunate, was a surfer on a board that was bit by a shark and quick-thinking surfers nearby used the surfboard "leash" as a tourniquet on the surfer's leg and it saved him from bleeding out, they got him to shore, an ambulance took him to the hospital where he received blood transfusions and lived!

@@thedoctor6332 I work offshore on tugboats and have worked on other types of offshore vessels and we wear hardhats. They make chinstraps for hardhats. The industry I work in is alot more safety regulated than commercial fishing is and all we are required to wear is hardhats and lifejackets and as soon as nobody is there to watch us they are coming off. A lifejacket is a lot more important thing to wear when you're offshore than a helmet but yet nobody is wearing them.
