As from fellow who use to build custom cooling systems: as you tilt your radiator (or have tube front or old school hoy rod) you need to make flances around the rad on its front side. Without any, air flow will just flow, "slide" on it surface and go over- around. What better cooling rad core, (more fpi) more restriction of air flow it will have. Air flow dosent want to go through. You need to build the flances to get pressure build up and forged the air to go through the rad. Belive me. Been there, many many times..

Your water is flowing too fast thru the radiator at highway speed not giving it time to cool. You need a restriction/ thermostat to slow down the flow. I used to remove the guts out of a thermostat and use only the housing to have a restriction.

I lived in royal oak most of my life. I never got a tow and drove many rattletraps. Twice I drove different cars more than 10 miles with a failed tierod. You just need a buddy to jump out and kick the tire straight. I've driven numerous vehicles with no brakes for days... once weeks. I never drove anything on the street without a windshield. Michiganders will get there somehow. God bless the LEO for not stopping us!!!!!!!! In my younger days there was no TOW MONEY!!

Maybe the cooling problem with 2.0 is actually water flow. You may need to "slow" the water down in the system so it has time to cool in the radiator. I know with old school small block Chevy engines if you remove the thermostat (in factory trim) the damn things just want to overheat. They need the stat to slow the water down even when cooling is needed to help the coolant have time to cool down in the radiator. I know it's complicated with the way the cooling on the smx is all joined outside the block with AN lines. Maybe some kind of inline electronic thermostat is out there just waiting for you 🤔 keep up the great work fellas, much love from Pennsylvania 🥳🇺🇲
