Time for Tea with Ella, a Rehabilitation Engineering STP

Hi everyone! Happy womxn in science day + 1!! Recently I spoke with Ella, a first year trainee in Rehabilitation Engineering. She’s only recently started in her department as engineering/medical physics trainees have their uni work from Sept-Dec in first year - seems like a LOT to me but I guess it gets it out of the way! Her department focuses on designing personalised wheelchairs for patients with conditions like cerebral palsy. They do consultations with the patients to get an understanding of what they want from their wheelchair and then find parts and customise one for them to help them to live more independently!
I didn’t think it would be so patient facing so it seems like such a good way to use engineering more clinically and with more interaction with patients if that’s your thing :)
