We should throw away the word "time" and simply use "change' instead. In this way we can discuss variable rates of change in different places of the universe. Then we can see things like gravity as simply changes in the rates of change giving acceleration in the form of space/rate of change. Then you can ask questions like, 'well what is changing the rate of change?' If it is simply that more energy in a space means things become more complex and the universe responds by slowing down the rate of change then many things become explainable.

Hi, I am a Chemical Engineer by training and we Chemical Engineers have to think of Physics, Chemistry and express it in mathematical forms. Assuming my understanding is correct as my chemical plants work in real world, let me put forward a point of view for you to debate on. I look at Universe as mass and energy. At big bang, there was dense matter, ofcourse created by GOD, and he added Energy to it. As any dense thing expands when given energy, like ice turns to water and then steam, universe is expanding like that. Universe is governed by laws of mass and energy balance. Mass and energy cannot be destroyed or created. They change forms. If we try to look at Universe like this, do you have enough data to validate this view point ? Can you explain the Universe with this theory? A Chemical Engineer asking expert physicist. Kuldeep Varma.

Watching a debate devoted to time, that occurred 11years ago, adds a dimension to the interior dialogue one naturally has during such exchanges of ideas. Is it real, or is it Memorex? As a Native American, I appreciate the flow of time in a manner that seems different than society at large. To me, the eternal now seems much larger and more encompassing than the past, which is limited in scope. And the future is even more narrowly defined, like a microscopic cone that is limited to things I mentally select as likely targets of inspection. This happens in spite of the fact that I know many other events and destinations should be available. I simply lack a reference from which to launch my focus, as in more information about that future is required. But that view is only a single aspect. Ideas, which seem to me to be projections of the self, appear eternal. The debate here, while 11 years in the past, is in my present, and is likely to be in someone else's future. But the ideas, though some have since been modified, remain as vital as when first uttered in 2009. (Vitality is not an property of correctness, nor the reverse.) And each time we bring this discussion forward to a new present, it is both past and present, to our senses. Our mind observes both as present now, though we can mentally tag the debate itself as older than our subjective now, but we have to make that effort, or it de facto becomes now. Therefore, it seems to me, that I the person, lives outside of time, choosing the place of self in the now only as a convenience to my corporeal body for its utility as a point of influence on the line of time recordings. It's my point of access. To me, having grown into awareness with this system, there is a significant amount of bleedover from the past and the future. And this apparent phenomenon therefore enlarges, and perhaps distorts, my present. The bleedover effect is strongest from the past, because it is able to also be solid in the now. The same effect from the future arrives in a more amorphous manner, such as anticipation, dread, desire, etc. Though more solid insights are occasionally available as well. Should we someday acquire a more firm grip on this greased pig called time, that runs amok with our senses, we will become citizens of eternity.

People like to ignore the fact that we are moving at the speed of the earth + the speed of the galaxy at all times. I haven’t ever heard that number mentioned as our individual speed. When referring to aging and time passage, Is our relative speed to the earth all that matters? That seems to be what everyone refers to. How fast is the dark matter traveling. What is our relative speed in reference to dark matter? What is the effect on our molecular composition by our relative speed in reference to the sun and the black hole at the center of the galaxy?

It seems that the discussion is limited by consistently putting time within the context of human consciousness. It’s hard to know to what extent this is a grammatical necessity or a real picture. To have an objective discussion about time, we have to make clear and distinct the elements that human perception could interfere with
@datboidominican

The term that is the 'future' is one I strongly believe is interfering with learning different notions of time and the world. We cannot pause time. The arrow of time as they mentioned looks to be going in one direction and that we are measuring it in a closed system. In a sense, the future is a progression of probabilities and the future CAN actually be predicted, though it will have to be concluded by attaining many different variables. Like our probability of being involved in an accident, the roads we choose to drive, our own relative system of time with factors such as car and our mood, and the system of others would align a better conscience of probability.

To say that the arrow of time is fixed because we cannot move backwards is not necessarily correct. Play with this idea; say you can change the arrow of time just by wishing so. So everything is happening backwards, then for some reason time changes direction again to move forwards, there is no reason you would be aware that you had just experienced the backwards event or that you had experienced the same event before as your conscience would move backwards with time thus being erased. Therefore there would be no way telling whether we actually do change directions in time every now and then.

The idea of the big bang theory a big explosion of all the matter to make billion's of large Galaxes and seeing pictures and doing no damage because of being so far apart in light years away. And Galaxes are in groups in different areas making it impossible for a Big Bang . This idea was created by Edgar Allan Poe 1809 to 1849 America Writer. He was interested in astronomy looking in the black sky and seeing little stars and thinking of it started . Having no idea of how it happened maybe something blew up that was very big mini little small pieces became the Stars we see in the sky even planets where bright lights like stars we could not see color the dark sky we know live in a time of street lights that do not make a dark sky at night I do not know where Edgar Allan Poe lived and where he was the spot taking the Stars to his mind being a writer he had thoughts I'd like to write them down and maybe to tell the story because that's who he's is Edgar Allan Poe we wonder where River start where big mountains have snow and the biggest mountains are only five miles high in ancient times the Milky Way was a woman arched over the sky milk came from her breast and dots of stars the Milky Way what's our universe became our universe we still call it the Milky Way from the Egyptians they have drawings showing this God created many worlds it is sad that our world was one of the worst because of people do not get along and are not kind to each other with love and understanding that they are different have different languages God thought they tried to make a Hightower to reach heaven but what they were using where clay bricks and would have fallen down because they work made of granite very hard Stone stronger the higher weight we make tall buildings made of steel framework the new ones we make now in New York are very thin built with floors with no windows to let air to pass through so that the tall buildings will not blow down

We have a propensity to think and experience life in a very linear way, past present and future. We have produced all type of theories to support and debunk that perception. Einstein personalized and differentiated our experiences as individual based on how we moved through space. I want expand on that it a different way. Let me first say I am not an expert or physicist, I have not studied the subject at length, however I like to theorize in my spare time, and I take on many universe questions. In my thinking about time I want introduce my Ribbon theory it’s very elementary in its development but I believe some smarter people will get it and help substantiate it. I want to introduce some definitions as I try and build and unscientific equation for my theory. Here they are Te = Time Experienced O = Outcome Ex = Experienced P = Past Em = Emotion Ts = Speed (how quickly time move through our experience Sc = Space constant F = Future As always time theories are often paradoxical. So here are my equations for my overall Ribbon theory Te = (Em)(Ex)- 0 / Sc From an individual level the perception of time changes in its duration and speed based on our emotion and experiences. I’m sure we all have experiences of this. Time seems to move quickly at a major life events, for example it takes forever to plan a big wedding, but when the day comes its over in a flash. As for space I believe it’s unaffected by time and always constant. Time is a ribbon that gets pulled through space based on Emotions and Experiences. Time in itself has no outcome it has no flow or direction it exist as multiple ribbons in space independent and randomly for our experiences. It’s very individual. Outcome is accepted experiences that have no emotion we remember them but they don’t exist in time. P= O - Ex If it still has Emotion its still ribbon(time) in space and a potential part of our future. The Future is our unresolved Emotion yet to be manifested into experience it exists in our past. F= Em - Ex + O So in essence there is many different times to be had. It’s not as linear as we perceive and their existences are infinite. biggest take away is Emotion it has to be added to every theory on time

Time can exist only when there is motion. Motion is possible because of energy. Energy is motion. It can be a potential or an actual. If everything would freeze in the cosmos and there would be no energy-motion, the time would stop to exist. Motion-energy needs space. If there is no space there is no time either. So the time-motion-energy-space are one. Explanation of entropy as process from disorder to order is misleading. I would say Entropy is a process from diversity to unity. To make it more wordy, i would use a metafore of dissolving rivers carrying different solution into the ocean.

Of course i made a mistake and entropy is described as flow from order to disorder. My point is, Entropy described as a process from order to disorder is misleading. I would say Entropy is a process from diversity to unity. The point is that the word disorder in relation to Entropy is very confusing expression and reflects subjective feelings. Entropy is a nonreversible process heading from certain unique structure towards absolute uniformity. To make it more wordy, i would use a metafore of dissolving rivers carrying different solutions into the ocean where they create a uniform solution of the ocean waters. This process is irreversible without additional energy.

I agree with your idea of diversity going towards unity, you may however not want to call it entropy. I think time is only relevant when a change occurs. If there is no change time becomes irrelevant. Relativity to me is just the degree of change which takes place on a conscious or unconscious. As you said, time is irrelevant to a frozen item with no motion.

+skapanakruska skapanakruska hi. The total energy of mass minus the gravitational energy come to be 0. Yet they don't cancel each other but coexist together in the same universe. It means the universe is not frozen. If not so, nothing would exist, not even you. The frozen state you are speaking about probably existed before the big bang. And then did not exist even nothing.

1:21:18 If I am particle sized from the face of a giant, would the quantum wave function change and would the uncertainty increase from the giant's perspective? Would it be the same as us, humans, only being able to measure the position of a particle with probability? If so, would it be fair to say that nothing has more entropy than anything else? Or that it's relative?

When the tensors of Newtonian mechanics are considered to be first-generation tensors, Tμν is flat geometry, Euclidean geometry is a naive, childish geometry, and the 4-dimensional tensor is diag(+1,+1,+1,+1). This ημν =diag(+1,+1,+1,+1) is assertive, and in the present it seeks stability, and the space-time is static from the present to the present, and the arrow of time tries to stay in the present. It's really selfish. When the Lorentz transformation is performed, two tensors appear. The second-generation Tμν, the third-generation tensor Tμν are obtained. ημν =diag(−1,+1,+1,+1), ημν =diag(+1,-1,-1,-1), The arrow of time in space-time moves from the past to the present and from the present to the future, and the other one moves from the future to the present and from the present to the past, and the arrow of time moves in that way.

What is Time? 1. Assume the three dimensional Universe is inside a three dimensional photo Frame. Everything in this universe is dynamic and changing in relative to other things and itself. Entropy is changing also. 2. The whole Universe inside the frame marked as Now Moment is separated from previous Now Moment by shortest possible separator Planck-time. 3. Last Now Moments are Record, History, Memory or Information. Next Now Moments are next changed states of the Universe inside Frame. 4. Only Now Moment Exist. Past and Future do not exist. Flow of Time forward or backward does not exist. No arrow of time. It is arrow of Change with elapse of Time. Moment is ticking repeatedly at Planck-Time interval with a new 3D-Photo of the Universe. 5. Conscious Mind can make predictions of next Moments from experience and can plan events for next Moments. 6. Every Planck-Volume’s “Now” of the Universe including space and stuffs in it is always in the same Now Moment Frame of the Universe. Relative Clock ticking, fast or slow, at different planck-volume for different conditions does not shift anything to previous or next Moment Frames of the Universe. Because clocks ticking slow or fast does not mean Time elapsing slow or fast. It is error of the clock for certain condition which need to be adjusted. All points Now remain in the Now Moment Frame of the Universe. That is why twins of paradox can meet at any ones Now though relatively they are backward or forward in respect of amount of time elapsed. Time travel is not possible. Our invented Clocks and Calendars are misleading us about time in the repetition of day & night and seasons. 7. The Unit by Clock is three dimensional at any point of the Universe. X axis: Universal Period of Time, Y axis: Passage or Elapse of Time and Z axis: Local Present or Now. Our Clocks only show one dimension: passage of Time. Clocks are good measuring device with a Unit but that is not Time.

Traveling is only done relative to other objects. If someone travels at the speed of light relative to someone else, the person he is traveling at the speed of light relative to is traveling at the speed of light relative to him. Wouldn't their perception of time be identical?

Hello, my name is William. I am an American PhD physicist and I have been investigating propagating Electromagnetic fields for many years. My investigations revealed that these fields and the information in these fields propagate nearly instantaneously when they are created and reduce to the speed of light as they propagate into the farfield. Ref William Walker Superluminal. According to Albert Einstein, if the speed of light is not a constant, then his theories of Special and General Relativity are wrong. This can be seen in Einstein's time dilation result due to a moving observer: t=r t' and the length contraction result: L=L'/r, where t and L are reference to the stationary frame, and t' and L ' are reference to the moving frame, and r is the Relativistic gamma factor: r =1/Sqrt(1-(v/c)^2). These results are easily derived using Einstein's light clock thought experiment using simple algebra. But if propagating EM fields with infinite speed near the source are used in the derivation, then c = Infinity, and r=1. If propagating EM fields far from the source are used, then c = the speed of light, and r= the standard Relativistic gamma factor. What comes out of this is that the effects on time and space are completely different depending on whether one uses propagating fields near or far away from the source, which can't be true since time and space are real. So the conclusion must be that Einstein's Relativity is wrong and time and space do not change with respect to moving reference frames, Galilean Relativity is correct, and that Einstein's equations just enable us to back calculate to the correct answer, given the time delays observed by the propagating EM fields used in measuring the effects. Ref William Walker Relativity. But these results do not account for the time dilation observed by moving atomic clocks in airplane experiments, but can be accounted for using variable light speed theory (VLS), originally proposed by Einstein, and later improved by Robert Dicky in 1957. In this theory, spacetime is not curved by gravity as suggested by General Relativity, instead Newtons theory of gravity is correct and the many other known effects of gravity are due to the affect of gravity on the of light speed. For instance the observed bending of light by mass, which caused General Relativity to be accepted, can be explained, by the gravity generated by the mass, changing the speed of light, causing the light to bend around the mass. This effect is analogous to the bending of light in glass. Since lasers are used in atomic clocks to measure time, then the observed time dilation in atomic clocks in moving airplanes can be explained as due to the effects of light speed changes in the clocks due to changes in gravitation as the plane goes up and down. It should also be noted that several researchers have shown the relation E=mc^2 can be derived without Relativity using Newtonian mechanics, and the Michelson Morley experiment can be explained using the Doppler effect, ref Nathan Rapport 2021 In summary, this research shows that Einstein's theories are wrong and that time and space do not change with respect to moving observers, Galilean Relativity is correct, Newtons theory of gravity is correct, and many of the other effects of gravity can be explained as gravity simply changing the speed of light. The importance of this research is that it completely changes our understanding of time and space and gravity, and simplifies our theories. Perhaps this new understanding will finally enable researchers to finally unite Gravitational theory with quantum mechanics which have been incompatible since scientists accepted Einstein's theories for Special and General Relativity. For instance, Relativity is incompatible with quantum entanglement, which requires communication faster than light, but can perhaps can be explained by superluminal propagating fields between entangled particles. It should be mentioned that this superluminal effect is also observed in the propagating gravitational fields generated by an oscillating mass using Newtonian gravitational theory, and is nearly infinite near the source and reduces to speed of light far from the source. Ref William Walker Gravitation. This matches very well with observations of the stability of the planets, which would not be possible if gravity propagates at light speed, and was originally proposed by Simone Laplace in his famous book: Mécanique Céleste in the late 1700's, where he estimated the speed of gravity to be 7x10^6 times greater than the speed of light. Time moves at the speed of light.. . .Therefore all you have to do is slow up the rate that time flows by adding energy or mass.. . .The greater the Energy Compression, or Mass now the shorter the expanding spiral wavelengths and the time period relative to the perspective of an outside observer.. . . Time is inverse multiplying energy compression +1=0 now -1 dividing expansion like frequency and wavelength.. . .Tap the side of a round bucket of water. . ..Because antimatter is just the opposite phase, or Vector Imploding Energy Compression +1=0 now -1 the constant outward momentum of the light forms the inward force call gravity as time unfolds C2 into the future .. . . We see all objects as they were in the past from when those gravitational light waves were emitted.. . .Independent of the motion of their source's.. . . Now space is a division of Solidity into entropy as time unfolds C2 the second law of thermodynamics.. . .But also as objects free fall into the future E2 will equal a multiplication of Volume +1=0 now at the expense of gravitational potential -1.. . .E2=M2 C4+P2 C2.. . .

If our perception of time shows there was a beginning as we experience it, then there is likely to also be an end as far as we experience it. So despite our radical advancements in the future, we will need to also figure out how to change our experience through time to exist in a timeless state of the universe in order to survive. If we simply reversed time for our own experiences, this introduces time travel paradoxes: would we need to avoid ourselves in the past as we continue to progress through spacetime, or would it not matter, and we can destroy humanity as it were and continue converting every particle of the universe into computable conscious matter?
@Electricmaniacforever

A little thought experiment...is spacetime real, as i need no space to travel time, but need time to travel space... ;) Meaning that all we do, when we move is to travel time and create space in that same moment, like entanglement. That would also mean, that all we see, when we look at distant stars, is time past, that actually doesn’t need space to be in, as it belongs to something long past, maybe even our own past - in every direction we look out there. If what we observe is not space, could we travel there at all? This is the reason, why space expansion might be observed to travel faster than light, because light needs space to travel in and therefore must create space (which is only time) before it actually gets there, but somewhat in an entangled way, which concludes, that it happens in the same moment. Now, if time is something connected to an observer, and it expands differently for everyone, it makes sense, how we feel space expanding from everywhere to everywhere (we are not at the center of the big bang, but everything moves away from us). It’s just different timebubbles expanding, which have neo real barrier, like a bubble, but like our lives, connect and go through each other as all of time grows like some kind of foam, growing in time.

It looks like we live in a predefined time block, as we grow and get older we get into illusion of passing time and try to define as past, present and future. As everthing around us consumes time to reach us, we respond to past events eg light sound vibration stimulai and others observe and react to our past actions not realising the time lag and define it as present. Our past is what we have lived already and future is what not yet lived and witnessed. Kindly correct me if I am mistaken in my opinion about time. Thanks.

I have always wondered about the frozen lake of time theory. Some would thank that if you stand perfectly still then time should stand still but if you give it some thought. your particles are always moving and the world is always spinning so we are always moving. So what if you put some sub atomic particles in space and froze them to absolute zero would time cease and dismiss? We now that absolute zero is unattainable for their is always heat energy making particles vibrate, but if we could remove all heat and the particle no longer moved and the essence of motion was completely removed would not time itself be removed as well. Since atomic clocks meause the microwaves from cesium atoms, I wonder if we could find a way to send some cesium atoms into space and freez them to near absolute zero would we see a drastic change in the time of the frequencys. Just a crazy thought.

32:40 - NO. The future is "different" from the past and the present - it exists, but it exists as a collection of possibilities, perhaps conditioned with probabilities. "Now" is the boundary where those possibilities collapse to a single real outcome, and move from there into the past. Now is a boundary, and the situation on opposite sides of it are dramatically different.

It is interesting that at the event horizon time is said to come to a stop, and beyond the horizon time changes to a space, according to what we are being told...that suggests time becomes a place, allowing us to pick the location...but then we have no time within which to pick the location...so where does it go...or more to the point where do we go...what is our location in time and how does that appear in space. If we approximate will that be nearly right enough to give us the solution?

Time is only how we perceive it. To understand time, don't we have to be able to perceive it from a different consciousness? Maybe we need to remove time (as it is not physical) from the equation. What if there was no "time", how would we measure the physical universe? We can slow down our perception of light (using slow motion videography) so in that act, we are wharping our perception of time. Further if we perceive the universe as light, if we add mirrors and fragment or reflect the path, we are wharping time too. It might be infinitesmal but it is wharping time based on how we perceive it. We need another alternative to time (or the concept of time) to test against time itself. In true darkness does time stop? Do we perceive anti-matter as the culmination of true darkness because density eliminates light and so is anti-matter anti-time? Does time move at all?

I prefer to think of 'time' in another word, 'processing' and also processing in one eternal moment, ask yourself the question, apart from physically looking older to others as you 'age' - do you feel any different, aside to life's learnings and experiences added to your collective mind intelligence, have you always felt in the now with yourself ?! Have a think about it as am sure you all have. Time is an illusion, a very good one, although it is not the way of Universe, do you see a huge clock in space? No... to understand eternity and time, you must first conceive that all is processing in the forever moment, whilst to be clear, yes we have memory, this is important in... yep.... processing... as also does our predictive sense of 'future', which becomes 'present processing' then memory, which is the residue of energy of whatever it is... still enjoyed this show as am sure others, felt to share this.

The idea that the space between galaxies is expanding and the this expansion is accelerating could be considered a improvement to big bang cosmology. Perhaps, at one time galaxies were closer together but not packed into an infinitely dense space as the big bang theory postulates. Then slowly at first but increasingly faster over time the distance between the galaxies expands leading to the present separation of galaxies.

31:27 If we're going to talk about what Einstein might have believed I think I have an idea. Time is both personal and universal. Time is the measurement Used to describe the Change of all things and the process it takes to reach that change. To master time is to instantaneously master everything. To change something instantaneously from one state to another without any other process. It's time looping yes it's time eternal yes is time ever changing yes. To explain that you have to add in dimensional theory and assume that even if our universe ceases to exist a universe ceases to exist a universe ceases to exist a universe will always exist. All of that means that eventually are universe will exist again now whether or not if it exists in the exact same state Would be solely up to Chance. To simply explain it time is consciousness time came to be when self awareness came to be. Time is the perception of changing things. To master time is to be omnipotent. That's why it's so difficult to master time. When people Think of time travel they think all of existence defaulting to an original State. But truthfully to master time is to master all States of matter. To be able to create matter from pure energy As well As the ability to convert all matter into pure energy.

NEW IDEA::: What if dark matter is ordinary particles that are twisted inside out. If so dark matter can both be dark matter, pluss being that which pushes the universe appart as in also being the dark energy. Since the dark matter particles in this example will have anti gravitational properties (ie be atoms with "electrons" sending photons to the neutrons and protons, instead of sending it out towards us so we see them. Or we could say they move photons backwards in time to inside those neucleons, or they are inverted atoms that in reallity are anti atoms, but that might imply anti atoms arent dangerous to regular atoms, or dark matter if they are anti atoms act as virtual particles, feeding our suns with new energy/matter via electic universe theory prosesses. Me, myself and i agree on this, but its just a new idea ;) A hypothesis!

Well done for the statement that we do not know the reality and the ontologies derived from various theories do contradict, so we do not know what is true and we need to be open minded. Many prominent scientists put their beliefs ahead of what is known and give a completely warped picture to the public. Sean Carroll unfortunately is one of these scientists, he is a very good scientist but when he speaks to audiences he presents metaphysics as physics without explaining the biases of what he is stating.

If Einstein is right that time passes slowly in high gravitational points than low gravitational points then age of high gravitational points are lower than low gravitational points. 13.8 billion years is not true age for all points of the Universe. Slow passing time is bending the spacetime more and more continuously in high gravitational points relative to low gravitational points. So mass energy bending the spacetime and time also extra bending the spacetime. Curvature must be increasing and gravity must be increasing. Am I right. Please reply.

@ Md. Faziul Karim... No, by conventional interpretations of cumulative observations to date, particularly in light of the 'dark energy's' dominant position vs. radiation & matter in the present universe, a flat-to-within-0.4% + or - universe is evolving in the direction of *negative* curvature (i.e., hyperbolic space... a.k.a., something like so-called "Anti de Sitter" space -- "AdS"). This ending point at (finally) an equilibrium state (some 10^100 years hence) -- basically empty space except for ground state fields (!) -- is sometimes referred to as "the Big Freeze". The "Big Rip" is even worse, if you are acutely prone to excessive existential angst (see young Alvy Singer in 'Annie Hall', 1977).
