Greetings from down south where the mighty Columbia enters the Pacific. Good seeing you both again, and hope you've wintered well. I just got through watching an excellent documentary on the day to day lives of the Yakut people of far north Siberia. When winter comes and the ice forms on the rivers and lakes, the locals cut blocks of ice and stack/store them at their homes in a convenient outbuilding or their outer porch. Each day a fresh block is brought in and placed in (what looked like) a 35-gl plastic trashcan with lid that contained the remaining room temperature water from previous days, which hastened the melting process. Given the snow:water ratio, this method of gathering water makes a lot of sense. Good tidbit there. Anyway, Be well. Safe journeys. Happy trails.

I once spent a brief time on the North Slope of Alaska at the Inupiaq Eskimo village of Nuiqsut. The folks whose home where I stayed, would go out onto local lakes or ponds and gather ice similar to the way that you mentioned. They would gather the ice and then place it in a plastic tank in the house where it could melt and then they used that for showering and other household uses. Since we were wanting a shower, I got to personally participate in that ritual of ice gathering to restock their supply.

@@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival Prior to my retirement I did a lot of business throughout AK including many villages. I used to sweat the barge schedules going to the Slope because for some villages they may only get 1 sailing. If they're lucky 2. I've had shipments held up by a year or two on account of the village not being ready or delayed at the plant. Loved the people and the glorious state, but not the stresses with shipping and deliveries. Breakup's not too far away with Spring around the corner. Enjoy, for life is short and there's no guarantees there'll be a tomorrow. Safe journeys. Happy trails.

I am rather a private person. So I won't be doing such a video but I will tell you that I moved to Alaska with my parents and siblings when I was an early teen. We drove up the Alaska highway which at that time was 1200 miles of gravel road. It is basically all paved now except for areas that are tore up for resurfacing. Alaska has more than doubled in population since we came. I once told a friend that I wished they would close "the gate" at the Alaska border and not allow any more people to move here. He agreed and informed me that he had had that opinion before my family moved here. lol

@@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival thanks you very much for your response i wich i could read a book like that. I understand, lots of people's watching, but 99% of us love y'all as close friends after hours and hours with you. I also laugh at your "gate" idea as I would love to retired there later but I wouldn't want to see it becoming overcrowded and messing up the peace vibe that seems to surround you. And you growing there tell's a lot about your mastery of the art we see in each video. Lifetime pratice, i'm far away from that milestone! I wish you good health and hapiness, looking foward the futur's video. Take care.
