Paige chose the right time to be nice. I loved how shawn was celebrated as a hero but he was dealing with the guilt of rick beeing shot dead while he and rick wrestled for the gun. That just showed how good of a person shawn is inside, how much he cares. And I love how he was so ready to stand in front of emma to protect her.

It never made sense to me that Rick’s mom allowed him to go back to the same school after he assaulted another student. Like OF COURSE no one will like him, he put his girlfriend in a literal coma. They should have moved him to the next school over and not give Rick the choice to stay at Degrassi.

One thing I wish they did was follow up with Toby and follow his journey with dealing with the shooting. We saw Sean, Emma, Jimmy, and Spinner dealing with it but Toby wasn't given anything. I wish we would have saw him dealing with the fact that someone he considered a friend did something so heinous. We see a bit of it this episode but that's it. The writers really did Toby dirty.

I think she doesn't face consequences because Spinner doesn't rat her out, but she feels remorse by regretting being a part of it right after and wanting to speak with the counselor in the next episode. This is also where she turns her life around and begins to hang with the main cast, mainly Ellie and Paige.

Not everyone shows regret outwardly. She could have been dealing with her guilt quietly. Same goes for people who are sad. As in liberty not crying over jt right away. Just because u don't show emotion on the outside does not mean u don't have emotions on the inside. Everyone deals with shit differently. Mia got on my damn nerve with that bs.

I think she felt bad about the prank which is why she felt the need to go to counseling but i also think that spinner didnt rat her out specifically because he and jay are the ones that caused jimmy to get shot when they lied to Rick because technically Paige had already unknowingly stopped the school shooting by apologizing to him

I feel like we could have seen so much character development/redemption for Rick if they would not have allowed him to return to school and showed him getting help. Maybe this whole thing could be avoided, as I’ve said before, the entire bullying thing because less about justice for Terry and all about making a mentally understandable teenager miserable.

terri and yes they wanted to show both sides cause in the end while rick was abusive the actual incident she hurt her head was more accidental then the others understand..he did not want her in a coma.... but looking back i think degrassi missed the boat on this topic..they tried to make rick the victim cause terri's actress left the show but then by trying to make him the victim they also wanted to tell this horror inevitable story about a kid who was bad in the end and it all comes off very naive ...

I personally feel like the Joey x Angie scenes in these particular episodes were so unnecessary and messed with the flow of the ep. Who cares about Joey's damn house? I didn't care when I was 10 and still don't care now. Aside from that, the trajectory of the show completely changed after Jimmy gets shot and took on a much darker tone imo.

The writers said that they had a B plot of the joey storyline because they wanted to show that normal life still happens while a tragedy is going on elsewhere. That it's just a normal day like every other day.

Ugh I always wanted more out of Hazel. Like, “What happened? Is he okay? Where is he?” I realize she could’ve been trying to “process” the information, but it always felt dry. & I agree that they could’ve done so much more with Hazel & Jimmy’s storyline after this. Many missed opportunities.

OH, that's another thing that pisses me off! They could've done SO much more with Jimmy, Hazel & Toby's characters post shooting! Hell even Spinner & Jay should've gotten an episode post shooting. The did get an episode focusing on their expulsion from school but not before that. Why did we have two part episodes focusing on Emma & Sean? Yes they were affected, but Jimmy was the most affected & we get nothing about how he's truly changed. The back half of season 4 is handled completely wrong imo.

I totally agree. I really feel like they dropped the ball with not focusing on Toby's grief and pain with the shooting at all. In general they basically forgot he even existed and used him as comic relief. The same thing happened when JT died. He was around for the initial episode then was dropped after that. Hazel is the focus of one of my favorite episodes of season 2 and they could have done so much more with her character in general that they just didn't do. It was frustrating.

The whole Rick storyline is SO complex. The fact that it took an entire season to get this point is great storytelling. There were so many factors that led up to the shooting, that just makes it so… UGH!

Ok. This was one of the most iconic & history altering episodes of Degrassi history. It changed the course of so many of our favorite characters! I wish Rick had a better chance to redeem himself throughout the season. We should've seen him go to counseling sessions with Ms. Soviee. Honestly, Time Stands Still should've been the finale. Can we be honest bc the rest of the season doesn't hold up! Mr. Raditch did nothing to protect Rick after he knew about the bullying he was experiencing! Jay & Spinner were horrible! Jimmy deserved better. Why didn't we get to focus on him after the shooting? We got no real storylines about his ptsd, his relationship with Hazel, nothing!! They made his whole storyline about returning to Degrassi about Spinner's guilt!! TRASH!

After this Emma started to be less unlike able I mean she still had her moments but for the most part she changed. Now People say Toby got real creepy and yeah he did but there was still some moments where he was a good character, but most of it was after jt and Rick died

@@hesayshesayhowboutmesayI wouldn’t call Toby creepy. In fact he’s one of the most innocent characters on the show if you think about it. At no point does he harm others, get involved with something illegal, cheat on someone ect. I’ll admit he wasn’t acting the best at times like when he was kinda staking Kendra or that announcement after Lakers came to Degrassi. However that was he’s first relationship so it’s understandable that he didn’t really know what and what not to do. Also the other person already pointed out Rick and JT were both dead so he definitely wasn’t in the right state of mind for a certain amount of time. Which is understandable given the circumstances. I personally would like him as a friend.

The fact of the matter is Rick put Terri in a coma and that was very wrong, does him returning to Degrassi to make amends erase his past mistakes? No, it doesn't and only time will tell if he's really changed and if Terri's friends will forgive him. As for his actions, I thing he really did try to change his ways, he tried to donate over $2,000 to charity early that season, but Alex let her emotion cloud her judgement and warp Rick's good deed into him trying to "buy" forgiveness. Rick went back to his old school knowing it would be very challenging, got bullied everyday and never tried to defend himself using his fists. Sounds like Rick was a changed man his problem was he really thought amends would change everybody's opinion about him. Not everybody is strong enough to forgive and bury the ratchet especially those dumbasses at Degrassi. Spinner, Jay, Alex, Emma, Jimmy were the main offenders and out of all of them the guy who got shot became a better person. Other than that the aftermath was pretty predictable, Ashley can fuck off forever, JT was a straight dick to Tobi trying to impress Danny only to be persuaded by his Ex that dumped him. Craig's comments were really crazy: "So what...we just rat?". Like this dude has a little sister so he should get it! I really don't understand all this rat and snitching bullshit either, how are people going to take prison, drug, street terms/policies and apply thing to EVERYTHING. School is for learning, not fighting, bullying, dating, and all the other shit they do in that school. I don't feel conflicted about liking Rick at all because to me he represents someone that made a extremely horrific mistake and was trying to get a second chance. We're human we make mistakes some more than others and some who try to avoid making them again.

2 years late but I love this episode so much looking back at it.... I think what they were getting at here was actually much deeper than I could appreciate then. At the time I only had rage and hatred for Rick. Rick's character is one that we know has done permanent harm to another human being (Teri), and we can't believe he's here in school after doing so. He is bullied relentlessly because no one believes he is capable of change. Rick is confronted by the one person who he can actually intimately relate to, and he doesn't even know it. We we have been following Sean since day 1 of this show - yes he has disappointed us but we have seen his heart, we know despite his flaws andd his past that he can be trusted. Yet the only reason Sean is here is because he too caused permanent damage to another human being! Years have passed since then and Sean has grown into someone that we know while flawed, IS capable of being good. If Sean never had a second chance after nearly killing someone, he wouldn't be in that hallway to stand in front of a loaded gun to save Emma's life... we are meant to ask ourselves if Rick, who is still a child, was so "bad" that he was beyond redemption. His peers thought so, and now he is dead so we will never have the answer

I've said so much about this episode outside of this forum and how Degrassi, for better or worse, basically created an entire genre of school shooting specials with this episode. I think there are a lot of flaws in the execution - should we feel bad for Rick? Does this episode focus too much on Rick and humanize him too much? Is it "right" to feel empathy for a school shooter? What is the "morally right" thing to feel in a tragedy such as this? I think especially in today's world, or at least today's world before COVID, how people talk about school shootings have dramatically shifted from being invested in who the school shooter was and "why he did it" to the victims of the shooting/the survivors. I think a show like "One Tree Hill" does a better job at balancing both - from all sides - but I still think Degrassi is a competent episode.

Remember they knew Rick was in the bathroom stall and since Jimmy had a fight with spinner and told him to make things right .he wanted to get back at him. Mr radish already had announced that the culprit would be in trouble. No one expected for Rick to bring a gun and shoot anyone. He felt betrayed by Jimmy. He was going to shoot Emma Sean got In between. Emma rejected his advance .he would have shot Paige but she showed empathy towards him.

This story is not only about school shooting it’s about Bullying it’s about incompetence in the staff how it could have been prevented that’s what makes it so well written everyone who went to high school can find a character to relate to in this Situation.

I noticed that the adult storylines are just from the 5 seasons of Degrassi TNG because after season 5 Joey and Caitlin are gone well Joey and Caitlin weren't in the rest of season 1 only the mother and child reunion episodes they were in but they did come back in season 2 so mainly seasons 2-5 I would say that

Rick was so pissed after being humiliated by the whole school it's a shame how the way he was treated even though what he did to Terri the previous season was wrong it was wrong for everybody else to make it worse especially Spinner and Jay for putting the blame on Jimmy that caused Rick to shot him causing him to be in a wheelchair later on in season 4 after he comes back from the hospital

This is one of the most important points that I think everybody should understand that is briefly talked about in episodes 7-8 and generally in this Rick Murray Saga. When Rick came back to Degrassi he came back seeking atonement and to prove to everybody that he wasn't a monster. Think back to all the time Rick was bullied and not once did he ever get violent proving that he really did change. The incident during the quiz show with that paint pushed him over the edge, I'm not saying what he did was right, but when the kids in the next show keep referring to him as a psycho and Craig talking about not wanting to "rat" on his people bullying others it speaks volumes to the mindset of these teens and parallels reality. I got a axe to grind with Craig in the next episode because if Sean and Emma didn't snitch on his father for abusing him he'd still be running up those stairs, about to get beat over cutting his steak incorrectly. Craig has a little sister so what is he even talking about? Snitching might get you killed, but it's jailhouse term that has infested itself into society making people fearful of doing the right thing and needs to be erased from the school system.
