I've been doing my research/homework on the tru cool transmission cooler one of the best coolers out there the stacked plates coolers are the best in efficiently. Plus the tru cool max has an low pressure drop unit. Well made good investment cost little more it depends how much you value your vehicle maintenance.

I was surprised that you blocked part of the new cooler with the light bar.

So sorry for the late reply! but A/C performance never changed at all nor does the cooling for the engine! Also, I was never able to get a good shot for the video but the light bar actually barley rests 1/4 inch into the flow of the cooler thus not really causing any air flow issues!

Y’all know you have to put the ports up cause then the cooler will not get all the way filled, look it up you will be using only half of it
@TheBeardedTortilla

Thanks for the input but it’s worked great. And actually as the fluid heats and expands it uses as much of the cooler as it needs. Hasn’t missed a beat in the 2 years it’s been in the truck.

If your trans temps is that high, I’d say take it to a transmission shop to check it out, it may be to late for it and need a rebuild. That OR you have a bad temp sensor

@@TheBeardedTortilla I have had a new Allison 1000 installed in a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD last year with a brand new radiator but ATF keeps overheating. I feel stuck, should I use both the normal radiator and ATF cooler moreover ?
@TheBeardedTortilla
@TheBeardedTortilla 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidkimvono3473 I would always recommend looking into a bigger or auxiliary transmission cooler for the older GM trucks. Sadly they are way to small and inefficient for the needs of the truck and driver. This transcooler or a bigger one even from Mishimoto or Dmax Store should work great for your application.

Does it matter if inlet and outlet ports are facing downward? After my overhauled transission was completed and installed, i told mechanic to install transmission cooler and disconnect from radiator. He installed cooler with ports facing down like yours. Problem is i've been looking at youtube videos and most people install cooler with ports facing sideways. One youtuber says if ports are installed downward the fluid won't reach all the way to the top of cooler fins, only 50% of cooler will be utilzied. Thanks for video, any feedback appreciated.

Thanks for asking! That truck is still in my family and I can tell you, the cooler runs perfect. I’m the hot AF summers, the transmission runs approx 100-120 degrees cruising down the road with 100+ ambient temps. Towing up hill, with about a 5000lbs boat, AC on, I’ve never seen the transmission pass 160. I hope that helps.

I installed this exact cooler to my Chevy Cobalt, temps went from 226°F in heavy traffic too 170-178°F with the cooler in the same exact hot summer traffic conditions. Literally 56°F drop on a small car lol. While cruising it would hover around 120-140°F. I'm looking to installing another one if these coolers to my explorer

@TheBeardedTortilla
@TheBeardedTortilla Жыл бұрын
No worries at all. Nope, the top bracket has never really caused an cooling issues. The truck is still in my family and still runs right at 208 engine coolant temp and around 100-120 on transmission temp in the hot CA/AZ summers.

@FountainFox Unlimited awesome to hear! I've an 05 4.8l that came with no tran cooler at all. I don't tow ever, but I just hit the 100k miles mark and I'm considering the 40k cooler to extend the life of the transmission as much as possible. Your vid was very helpful, thank you!

What cooler you think is better this one or the mishimoto?
@TheBeardedTortilla
@TheBeardedTortilla 11 ай бұрын
Honestly I think they are both great, they do the job as they need to of cooling the transmission temp better than stock. Depends on how much work you want to do I guess. I have the Mishimoto in my 2015 Silverado and it runs great, was a really nice kit for a clean install. On the older truck, the Tru Cool worked great for me to make my own brackets and such. I think it’s just preference.

Im very confused on my chevy 2008 v6, i have two big radiator like yours but i thought one of them was for the tranny but im seeing that the smaller one you had before was the one for the tranny so what are the two big ones for? I want to install the same transmission cooler as yours but not sure which lines go to it or if it will even make a difference if i already have one on there because my temp goes up to like 240
@TheBeardedTortilla
@TheBeardedTortilla 2 жыл бұрын
So if your trans temp is going up to 240, it’s probably time for a rebuild because that is way to high for normal operation. The two bigger cooler looking parts should be your radiator and your A/C condenser. The small one in the 99-06 trucks is the transmission cooler, as seen in my video. A helpful tip too is if that temp on your gauge is constant, meaning from the time you start your truck in the morning, it could be the sensor. Either way I’d recommend a visit to a transmission shop and then the cooler after. The GM 4L60E and the 80E do not like being that hot. I hope this helps.
@alanlicano7709

@@TheBeardedTortilla thank you for your advice, the temp only goes up that high sometimes when im driving like 80 mph but its only sometimes, and sometimes when it goes up like that it comes back down to like 200 but when im driving regular speeds it stays under 210 so im not really sure, but ill try taking it to a shop and see whats going on, wasnt really trying to spend much on a rebuild but we’ll see how much it costs Thanks 🙏🏼
