Hi @Golden Reward There is a good chance the corms have been damaged, Try growing them on in either a large cell plug tray or a tray that you can sprout them in a potting mix. Throw any away that smell bad or are slimy. Hope this helps.

Hi Tony and Denise, please could you tell me the width of the beds and the length so I can figure out your spacing between rows and inter row. Many thnx.

Hi Tony and Denise - it looks like you have 1/4 inch tubing on these beds - any particular reasons you prefer it to drip tape? Or maybe what I'm seeing isn't tubing -. Also, is that 3/4" pvc that holds the poly tubing ribs? Is it just pushed into the ground or fastened on the insides of the beds? Thanks :-)

Now do you let the rananculus go dormant then pull them out or once you collected all the flowers do you cut back dig up and then dry them out for storage?
@BareMtnFarm
@BareMtnFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Hi @onetwocue We let the plants go dormant before digging and storing. We find that if you dig early and dry the plants they aren't maturing enough to give good viable corms.

@@BareMtnFarm so it's basically like say daffodil bulbs. You let all the foliage go yellow so the underground bulb, rhizome, or tuber collect all it's nutrients for next e then. Like you don't want to harvest daffodil flowers and cut the remaining foliage down to ground.

Did you make that dibble? How did you make such a great point on it?

I use a broken shaft of a garden fork where it has broken off at the head of the fork. Bit of whittling with a knife to balance the angle but works well.

Hi @Carissa Carter @Clifford Cain answer is spot on! In my case I used an old weed whip handle since it was a wider diameter than a regular fork or shovel handle and a perfect height(no extra cutting). I did exactly the same thing shaved it roughly down using an axe then a wood rasp to finish it to a point. The handle top is a 1.5" PVC T joint that I secured with a screw into the handle.

Could you give me any advice? I soaked some ranunculus the other day (they seemed plump after about 3 hours so only soaked them for for 3 hours) & planted them in a lightly moistened seed starting mix 3 days ago. They are in an unheated garage which has been between 50-55 degrees. I checked them today & there is mold growing on some of them. Is it likely the seed mix is a little too moist or could the temperature be causing it?

You need to have perlite in your mix. Our ratio for soil is coarse perlite to peat or potting mix. 1 to 1 . Good air flow is needed. We also use worm castings in our soak, which has helped with mold. And you can do everything right and it still happens. Good luck. Denise 😊

@@BareMtnFarm ty for your feedback. I'd say it's about 1 part coco coir, 1 part peat moss, 1 part Perlite. Do you think I should pull them out, mix in more Perlite & a little dry peat moss? I have the time. Do you think it would possibly save some from molding & rotting?

Do you put a low tunnel over your field sown Ranunculus in Feb?
@BareMtnFarm
@BareMtnFarm 2 жыл бұрын
We don't tend to use a low tunnel in our area for the field planted as our climate tends not to have damaging cold temps or snow by the time these are in the field. When it comes to bloom time we have occasion used a floating row cover over hoops to give some protection from hail in Spring thunderstorms. But lately over the last several years we haven't used any protection.
