You can tell you've done this for some time because the documents are second nature to you. You already know what's what and how many pages go with each section etc. You clearly know what your looking at just at a glance.

to be honest going through the course on the notary coach site really did prepare me for these closings. I just followed the pattern he used for explaining the docs. The other thing is not trying to do to much during the closing. What I mean is just stay focused on presenting the docs and not yielding to the temptation to over explain the docs. We can sometimes be in front of someone that really does not know the mortgage process, what or why they are signing. Looking at them struggle can make your heart go out to them and want to help them out. Don't cross the line of giving legal advise. What helped me learn more about the docs was calling the loan officer when a issue arose and allowing the loan officer to explain and having the phone on speaker.

Watching this again, I picked up so many nuggets. I'm sure I'll keep picking up more. Thanks for this video. But I do have a question about asking for a higher fee regarding the order that came in from the company you stated had a habit of slipping in large documents for low fees. You said that because of your reputation, you feel you should be able to command a higher fee. I also recall you saying in more recent videos, that notaries should take whatever orders they can due to (hope I'm remembering this correctly) market conditions. I get that this advice would apply to new notaries too. I also recall you did a video about the time it took to print documents. Some notaries were claiming that it took if I recall correctly, 4 hours to print a document, and you mentioned something about the cost of printing not being anywhere near what was being claimed. I interpreted that as you saying the amount of pages is a non-factor in the job fee. Was that a correct interpretation? If so, why was it a factor here?
