I noticed that not a lot of people are looking into these types of videos, which is actually alarming. Based off of recent events with covid19 and our government, we really need to work on our response to catastrophe. Although a blackout is usually something most people don’t think will happen anytime soon, this sort of thing always catches people off guard. If a major blackout happens, it will truly test people’s ability to survive.

im from the UK and over here it is way more difficult to become a prepper, but im going to do my best :) anyway, over here we cant have guns or other weapons (thank goodness). i just wanted to applaud you as an american prepper family! despite watching soooo many different preppers for hints and tips, you two are the ONLY ONES who have stated you do not want to rely on weapons and arent stockpiling guns and ammo, you are also the ONLY ONES that i have seen that are thinking about the community rather than just saving yourselves! ive binge watched several of your vids today and you have consistently mentioned what you could do for neighbours (even if that is giving them the low quality toilet roll, storing diapers, etc), even bartering i see as helping a community survive. i just wanted to send big hugs from across the pond to acknowledge how wonderful i think you are.

Prepping in a small apartment with a fairly big family is so much more difficult. I’m doing all I can (dehydrating, shelves, under the bed storage, etc.) It would be fine for one person, maybe 2. But with kids and little space, it’s exponentially harder.

The grid failure of 2003 in the northeast has shown how quickly even the most civilized people turn into animals driven by pure survival instinct and I would like to see you "sharing" your resources with people that will not hesitate a second to kill for what they want in an ongoing long term power grid failure. When the power went out in New York City, it took less than 24 hours and the entire city went out of control to the point the national guard had to be called in as the NYPD couldn't handle the situation anymore. Lessons learned from that: Get out of the city as fast as you can, avoid highways and above all, avoid people as much as you can. As sad as it is, in a long term grid down situation, you will encounter situations where firearms are the difference between life and death and even the most leftist anti 2nd amendment people in the country will scream for guns when the chips are down. If you stay in the city or any metro area with high population density, all the storing of water and food will not help because 90% of the people will not be prepared and will take what you have once the word gets out that you have food, water, fuel or any other valuable resources. For at least a month, maybe longer, there will be utter chaos and it will only calm down once the unprepared have died and the fight for resources has diminished. After that, what people are left, will eventually band together to form new communities and share resources. Before that, good luck with your "sharing" and remaining "civilized" ;-) However, if you are out in the country somewhere away from large population centers, what you said here is correct and life without the luxuries of our modern society such as electricity and internet, is very doable. I would have a couple of suggestions for that: Don't collect your personal waste in trash bags to be discarded. Instead, use human waste in your garden. Human waste contains all the basic elements and nutrients your garden soil need to grow healthy crops and will replenish your soil with those nutrients to ensure long term use of it ;-) One other thing, water can be stored pretty much indefinitely, however, plastic bottles will during long term storage, emit chemicals into the water that are harmful. Storing water is much better in large barrels away from sunlight. It also enables you to collect rain water. Lastly, dry goods such as rice and beans can be stored indefinitely as long as they're kept dry. The same goes for honey, dry milk powder, flour and such. Beans, lentils and the likes are an excellent meat substitute as they provide all the proteins and vitamins that meat does. Beans particularly contain all the vitamin C and D you will ever need.

Great video. Great information. The fact that this report recommends increasing household food reserves from 3 days to 14 days should be a loud foot stomping hint for everyone. The report uses language such as "Civil Defense" that hasn't been use by the government since World War 2. Something has clearly spooked the government, and everyone should sit up and take notice. Merry Christmas.

The grid down after 3 days means anarchy. Gas stations closed. Grocery stores closed. Hospitals on limited operation. How about your freezer and the food inside. I am sticking to the basics. Food, water and shelter. Of course these 3 is a full time job. Once others find out you have food, they are coming to you. Pain starts as empty stomachs have no mercy for others. That's when defense comes in. If you bug in, outside and inside the home requires early warning devices and slows down their progress. After a week, turmoil prevails.

I have a Berkey filter and a view of Lake Ontario. Water Problem solved. I can grow greens on my balcony. It’s too shady to grow anything else but greens are highly nutritious. Everyone in Canada knows what it means to be really, really cold. I know a recent immigrant who got frostbite because he didn’t understand the dangers. That just doesn’t happen to people born here. I read that sawdust is a great thing to have on hand for human waste. You can use it like a composting toilet. You put a little in the bag, then a little on top after you go.

What ever route you take and what options you may have, you need to test out your ideas. Example: I have a large enough generator to take care of almost anything, however, during Hurricane Irma I found I did NOT have the necessary components to tie it all together and Home Depot was closed. Think thru your plans and test them.

Terra Moody, you said: "No not long term and emp can't happen. It's not happening." May I respectfully suggest that you google the Carrington event of 1859. It already did happen. What we do not know is how many times these types of events happened in the past because there were no electronics that failed so no historical records. What we do know is that we have had a number of very close calls where an event (solar activity) did happen but missed our beautiful planet earth by a few days time. Good luck to you.
