Hi Kelly, thank you, and here's a bit of a giggle for you. I was reading a year by year British history the other day that I've had for ages. I got to 1702 when Queen Anne was on the throne. She wrote a letter for one of her "dignitaries" to ship to America and read it to the American government of the day. So, Lord Cornbury was chosen, he went, stood behind the curtain to be introduced to the American government, and, as he was to read a statement from Queen Anne, he appeared from behind the curtain, dressed as Queen Anne, complete with crown, and nearly caused an international incident. The problem stems from the top with local Councils afraid of flying the Union Flag. My Council on St. George’s Day just did not fly one Union Flag! Someone must have made that decision that no Council building would show the Union Flag of the United Kingdom. Even the Parish Church in the town centre didn’t fly the flag. Every school should have the Union Flag displayed in the school hall or better still outside on a flag pole so our children take pride in our country, this is how it is in the USA with its Stars and Stripes! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

At my primary school 45 years ago we raised the Union Jack every morning before school and it was lowered at the end of school. That was a privilege that only the best behaved kids got to do. When I visited Britain in the 60's, it was really British..... the people with all their customs and food and way of life. I loved it. It is now unrecognizable. The people I knew there, relatives, had such pride......they had been through the war. London, Sheffield, Manchester.............Aberystwyth in Wales......all with their own distinctive, delightful customs. I didn't go there to see women in hijabs and men, all speaking Arabic. As a Muslim British Pakistani I agree with this. I don't want Britain to lose it britsh values. I don't want any thing taught in schools other than key subjects, including get rid of religious education. I love that picture. That's it that the one. I really don’t think it is up to normal British citizens to have to say that. It should be enshrined in our laws and promoted by governments and our king. Every immigrant should be made to sign a charter, to uphold British values and culture. Their religion should also be taken into account. You obviously can’t stop anyone from having a religious belief, but it should not interfere with the state. Certainly no ethnic or religious group, should hold priority over anyone else, as seems to be the case in a lot of major cities, including our capital London. Being British is not about being white. The turn of the last century Britain was full of migrants and has been for centuries. It’s about the British way of life which comes from our Christian roots. In my book it’s the characteristics that count, the stiff upper lip, fair play, community, humour, loyalty, respect and observing the religious holiday calendar, even if you were not a church goer. It was something that was unique in the world and something to be proud of. Back then even foreign countries respected British visitors to their country, a British passport was a prized possession.

Scientists have been saying for some time that up to 80% of one's DNA is 'in the head', i.e., controlling/influencing one's thought processes and behaviour in exactly the same way as we see in other mammals. Logically, that means that the 'Britishness' that made the UK such a pleasant place to be was in fact inherited in its population and preserved as a result of the country not invaded since 1066, the resulting homogeneity allowing all individuals to relate to each other instinctively for a peaceful, productive, civilised and stable social environment. Importing large, differently-programmed foreign populations is obviously likely to destroy all that unless these additions can be shown to be (a) as near to totally-compatible with, or at least amenable to, the existing status quo as possible and (b) offering 'value-added' elements that will improve the UK's existing quality of life for everyone without exception and not disrupt it in any way at all. Is that what's happened? Absolutely not. There's no easy or 'nice' remedy for the current mess, unfortunately.
