Time To Retire The Lexus LS430?

Some bad news from our mechanic today. The Lexus LS430 was in for an oil change - and now we're looking at a hefty bill. Radiator leaking, front brakes down to 15% and forget the hood that won't close except under extraordinary circumstances - that's a $700 repair. Should we sell instead of repairing? It's got 289,000 miles.

Good on you for deciding to keep the LS430, We also own one and they are very reliable and very safe, ours is a 2004 with 163,000km on it, no car is perfect but I have read that Lexus admits the 430 is a better overall car than the models that came after it.

Hello? 289,000 miles is nothing. It is barely broken in. Living in Southern California, we don't get rust, but I'd suggest keeping it. I still drive my '99 SC400 all the time.

Check RockAuto, that’s how we keep our high mileage Lexus cars up. If you get brakes from them make sure to get the coated ones. Would love to see a GX or RX for you guys!

Keep it forever don't be disappointed with repairs. Shop around for best prices I use Rockauto then bring to mechanic. They hate this because can't make money on parts but least I know what they're putting on(oem equivalent)

I understand, do not sell ls430 it’s special, this not normal math, if you have history, then never get git rid of, I will buy it if you sale

Good choice in keeping it. Honestly those are just maintenance items, it will happen with everything. Just stinks when its unexpected. When they start getting old like this, if it all possible its worth trying to turn that wrench yourself, especially on the simpler jobs. Helps take the sting out of spending big money on old vehicles when its only parts, and not labor too. Although being in Canada in the winter, I completely understand not wanting to attempt it. I struggle in Michigan with a somewhat heated garage.

I have ls430 for 5 years I bought it from Japan only 87k kilometres now it has 280k kilometres I’ve been running it with used parts and aftermarket parts you don’t need new original parts they run perfectly fine with anything

Definitely keep it and get it repaired..I have the same car here in Scotland.to get a car of that spec and luxury would cost a fortune.and they are reliable
