Louis Vuitton's Tambour shows off the brand's know-how

The arguments about fashion watches will most likely last until the end of time, no matter how many of those brands validate their efforts with award-winning designs and intensive traditional crafts. For Louis Vuitton, some of their higher-end models were dismissed purely based on the name, and they’ve finally decided to take some drastic action. Self-admittedly weighed down by some bulky watches in their lower end, the Parisian fashion house has scrapped almost all of their watch catalogue to start fresh. Redefining ‘entry-level’ to dismiss anyone who can’t put their money where their mouth is, the Louis Vuitton Tambour firmly plants them into a category of luxury watchmaking.

I dont think the general watch public realise how impressive La Fabrique du Temps (pronounced la-fabreek-doo-tom 😌) is, and you cannot undersell how great of a watchmaking house LV have picked up. La Fabrique Du Temp's two head watchmakers - Navas and Barbasini have worked on AP, Patek, Van Cleef, Gerald Genta, Frank Muller high complications. Attracted and trained Rexhep Rexhepi, made movements for Speake Marin, Laurent Ferrier and Jacob and Co. We are talking mega high end, above and beyond the holy trinity in terms of watchmaking prowess and finishing. LV are the dark horse now, they are going to be heavy hitters in the coming years and decades. Watch this space.

Gorgeous timepieces! Both dials looks so classy and elegant and the original bracelet completes the watch perfectly. One thing I have to mention that maybe it is only me that gets annoyed but why those hour and minute hands don`t touch the trails inside the dial? That makes me so frustrated :)

At this price range you can go for VC Overseas, Piaget Polo S etc that are far better options than this fashion brand

I disagree. For people who can already afford the Overseas/Royal Oak, this LV is like an all new independent. The finishing is better than the Polo, Overseas and even the Royal Oak. Movement is made by La Fabrique Du Temps, watchmakers who have worked on Patek, Van Cleef, Gerald Genta, Frank Muller. Hired and trained Rexhep Rexhepi, made movements for Speake Marin, Laurent Ferrier and Jacob and Co. We are talking mega high end, above the holy trinity in terms of watchmaking prowess.

The target market for this watch is rich people who want a designer brand watch - not watch enthusiasts. I'd argue the average rich person doesn't even know what Vacheron Constantin is. But they absolutely know what LV is

@@stephen9609 huh?? Generalising much? I'm in Hong Kong and plenty of wealthy people absolutely love their watches. At watch meets I see everything from Sinns to Tissot PRXs to Breguet Traditions to Alain Silverstein collabs to Moser Streamliners to FP Journe Chronometre Souverins to Czapek Antarctiques to Laurent Ferriers to vintage Heuer and vintage Rolexes. And if you think genuine rich people like LV, you are clearly mistaken. LV is a mainstream brand much akin to Rolex. However, their watchmaking is going places. Watch this space.

Think this will be an uphill battle. Not a bad looking watch but its pricing puts it against some significant heavy hitters with HISTORY. Not sure people will pay that much for a fashion brand whose most popular items are handbags and luggage. Maybe rebrand?

Great first effort but it will take them sometimes to get away from their previous work, one issue though is the louis vuitton logo letters applied on the bezel or the cases's side this needs to disappear moving forward if they want to be taken seriously. serious
