84 all the way. Smiles and tears, you nailed it right buddy. The whole spectrum. Watching the first TV airing of Robocop through a faint living room door opening while unaware parents were sitting after sending me to my room since "it's for grown-ups, darling". Seeing my mum timidly pulling some moves on a Pop Rock Top-50 with blurry recollection of what I think were Bon Jovi's and Jimmy Lee Ross' doing their stuff on the magic TV. The Vinyl playing some Abba tune. The custom lamp hi-Fi player. Dad coming back and pushing the VHS recording of MacGyver in after coming back from work. Ghostbuster trailer here, Rambo 3 there, the Fugitive's giant ad right outside our street. And of course, the most vivid memories of them all : the Amstrad CPC 6128 and the NES, and a one-hour priviledge to play them per week, and good marks at school as a requirement to keep it. Disney shows on Saturdays. Classic anime on Wednesdays. Grew up among stars only to realize it too late.

Was born in ‘77...as a kid in the 80’s, I loved all the joys and pain, experiencing that decade. I absolutely cannot believe I am still alive today, when I should have been dead several times over. Every time, I listen to some 80’s music, it takes me back that place...only those who have experienced that era, know what we’re talking about...

To all of you missing your childhood, please don’t be sad. Sure we may not be able to go back per say, but we can still very much hold onto who we were during that time. Maybe life says we have to move on and no turning back, but we all have the power to stay in touch with who we were / the child within us. I make it my life’s mission to never lose touch with my childlike essence. I won’t let the world say that I can’t have it. It is still a big part of who I am, no matter how life tries to abruptly take it away. I love you all.

I was thinking about this yesterday. I told my friend there should be a town, or a few towns close together, that were built to feel like the 80s where there were no internet besides a couple hot sports because you may need to get in touch with elsewhere in the world as everyone else uses technology. So perhaps a specific place like in a library or the city halls or something. Otherwise. The towns would only have 80s themes buildings. Local TV stations and radio station played 80s music, movies, and TV shows. Stores sold product with 80s packaging. Only 80s vehicles are allowed. 80s clothes are sold in local stores and everyone wears 80s fashion. Schools are run as they were in the 80s but with updated textbooks (and allowed to use computers Only if needed by curriculum) so that they comply with the state and federal education laws. Everything in these towns would be 80s themed and would be popular tourist attractions. I'd move to a town like this in a heartbeat.

I think the 80s was the best decade to grow up in. It was a decade of optimism and hope for the future despite the tensions of nuclear war and economic uncertainty. Unfortunately, we don't have this same level of optimism anymore and we need to change that. Perhaps, these wonderful reflections of the past can inspire a new renaissance which revives what was truly joyful and pure. I want to be a part of that and I want that feeling to be returned again so others can be inspired as well.

Reduced this 38 year old man to tears too. Just through some crazy bad luck, everyone I've ever known and loved, who knew me and loved me, is long gone... But these weren't just sad tears, there were plenty of happy ones too. I keep hearing these health insurance commercials in the background when the TV is on, and they keep saying over and over, "Call now! It's free! And won't cost you anything!" But that ain't true. It's going to cost the people that call, what I consider to be, the most valuable thing any of us can give or receive. And that's our time. Think about it, if you give someone your time, it's theirs forever, and you can never get it back. Sometimes, I'll spend maybe 30 minutes to an hour, writing or typing something meaningful about someone, to send to them for their birthday or something. And make sure to ask them how many other friends spent that much time on them for their birthday. Anyway, this video also makes me think of one of my favorite quotes, from Star Trek: The Next Generation. From an episode called, "The Inner Light," from season 5, episode 25: "Seize the time. Live now; make NOW always the most precious time. Now will never come again." (Captain Jean-Luc Picard)
