Watched again after two years. I wouldn't call this a custom rebuild, that's too mundane. I'd call it a work of art! Beautiful.

As someone who loves to buy old machines and rebuild them to a level beyond the original specs, I really appreciate this video You sir are an amazing craftsman. I recently purchased one of these patchers and immediatly saw the potential for improvement. I would love to see a very slower video with some details about some of your observations. I see alot of really well thought out modifications and scratch built parts, that I would love to to know more about. Beautiful work

Yeah, but does it sew? .LOL! I am beginning to believe that there are people who buy this thing primarily to sew and others who buy it to tinker with and if it sees that”s a bonus. Either way, for the price, it’s all good. You are a brilliant machinist sir!

Very nice job at machining all Tahoe parts and improving the aesthetics of the machine. Beautiful job. I have 3 of these set up with different threads. One is motorized. Mine are moded heavily but not like yours. The biggest draw back of these machines is the lack of feed dogs. I like that it can sew in different directions but it does not even come close to my cylinder arm machine. The raceway bearings are also a weak point. Have you made mods on the bearings?

Beautiful ! That the way to do 👏, those Chinese machines got some good raw materials and price but in did need to be "refurbished/finished", at the end if it's do it right (or awesome, like you do), you got quite an industrial, inmortal machine and a unique pice of art, thanks for share.
@rlndl664 жыл бұрын

Beautiful! Did you simply move the motor from the plastic housing and fabricate a custom bracket? I assume it was a plastic housing. Looks much better without it.

I am working on a work table like that, with a few difference. I don't have all those tools for cutting and welding, so most of it will have to be bolted together. Thank you for sharing.
@godin82623 жыл бұрын
This is a piece of art Wow! But not many people have the skill or the equipment to do that and now that cobbler of 125$ become one that would sell for as much as a regular shoe patcher by looking at the quality of the work. How that machine would compare with a regular shoe patcher. Could you still unmount the cobbler from the big heavy stand if you want to make it portable again? Because the reason for buying those Chinese cobbler is to save money and carry them, it mostly defeats the purpose. I agree with other people, the best ever seen.

This tutorial is great, but I packed mine up and sent it back. I spent hours trying to get mine to work properly, in addition to watching many “how to” videos. Oh, I had it all bolted together and threaded properly, but the thread would keep snapping after every few stitches. I’m not a mechanic or engineer, I just wanted to enjoy leather craft as a fun hobby. It’s easier to just stitch it by hand. My view is that if I have to take a machine apart and rebuild it, then I shouldn’t have to pay over $100.00 for it.

Really cool upgrades. The only thing I saw that I would do differently is that chain final drive. I would use a belt instead. Why? well if (Heaven forfend) anything at the business end jams up, a belt will slip while a chain will continue to apply force, likely increasing the damage. While the probability of a jam up may be low, good old Murphy is always lurking in the wings!😁

Thanks for the video. I need HELP! My walking foot doesn't walk. The upside down U shaped piece barely moves left and right. So I followed that part to the other end, to the base. That arm has very little space from the end to the base. Also, one of those rotating levers at the base doesn't even press against that arm which is part of the U shaped piece. It's like the machine is damaged or I put it together wrong. Are both of these levers supposed to touch a metal arm?

so perfect。from china。

You done a amazing job on this 150.00 machine and I would like to offer you your money back and I'll pay shipping. Just a guess on the shipping cost should be around 40.00 so I can enclose a check for 190.00 . If the shipping is more I will get square with you on it, if it's less you can keep it.

Hi rlndl66, First of all, wow. I didn't know I could be so attracted to a machine... : ) and secondly, what kind of grease were you using? I just tore mine down (no modifications, except intense polishing on anything that contacts other metal) and want to get it right going back together. It won't look like that lil' beauty, but I'm hoping it will run smoothly.

so interested in doing this myself... have all the tools. wondering how much you kept? anything besides the frame? And what was the reason to use chain and sprocket? Why not direct drive? Beautiful work.

I used the chain drive so I could build the ratcheting mechanism into the hub because I wanted to be able to use the hand crank as well as the motor...which has an electronic brake.

A quick question if you're still watching the replies: are the arms scratch built or did you rework the original ones? They look scratch built.
@rlndl66 Жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, Yes they are scratch built. I used the old ones to get the hole location.
