Oda basically took Rokushiki and made it into armament, mantra into observation and killiing intent or whatever you might call it into conquerors haki.

Here's a bigger plot twist. Luffy knew about Hito Hito no Mi: Model Nika all along, but he decided to called Gomu Gomu No Mi, because that's how Shanks called it. … I’m guessing you don’t read a lot… that’s not called predicting the future, it’s called Foreshadowing. It’s a literary technique where the author plants seeds in the story to pay off later on. A commonly stated example would be Checkovs gun, mentioned being in the setting, so you know it will be fired later.

If you want a story with even better foreshadowing than One Piece, I’d recommend Worm by Wildbow. From the very first sentence to the last, it’s a story that Worms its way through itself to the point where you can go back through at many points in the story and every bit of context you garner was clearly there and intended from the beginning, you just needed more context. When I say better, before ya get offended… Haki and The Worst Generation come to mind.
