I was in the Air Force active duty from Dec. 17, 1967 to Dec. 18, 1971. I was stationed at Langley AFB, Bien Hoa, Vietnam (Nov. 68 to Nov. '69 and RAF Bentwaters, England. I requested the security police career field as did one other guy in basic training. When we got our orders after basic, nine of us were assigned to security police because security police were badly needed in Vietnam. I went DDA to Langley along with eight other guys and received the most pathetic training from an incompetent tech sergeant who was fired from the job after five of the nine guys failed the test, the one level if I remember correctly. The four of us who passed were put in security and the five who failed were put in law enforcement. Having completed my training I volunteered for Vietnam, a lot of guys did. I turned 19 on a Friday the 13th at Lackland AFB going through Asia Zone Rediness (AZR) training. A month and a half later I was in Vietnam and endured the toughest year of my life. Interestingly, at Langley guys complained about everything and at Bentwaters guys complained about a lot but in Vietnam no one complained about anything. The situation was too serious to be complaining. The security police at Bien Hoa and Ton Su Nhut fought off and killed hundreds of enemy troops during ground attacks. We lost a few troops. Being in Air Force security police was the toughest job I ever had, because nothing is worse than having nothing to do. Being overworked is easier than walking around with an M-16 hanging over your shoulder with nothing to do. After the Air Force I earned a bachelor's and degree worked my way up the corporate ladder and retired as Director, Government Security, having spent 37 years protecting classified information by ensuring compliance with the mountains of security requirements for various government agencies. I worked hard doing that and had to travel excessively, but being in Air Force security police was harder.

Wow that’s crazy story.So are you saying I shouldn’t do this career because it is boring?Or I should because it can get me a good law enforcement career after my service is done?Like should I focus more on an Air Force career by the present and what it is or where it can take me in the future ?

Like most things in the military your mileage may vary. I did four years active and another 17 with the Air Guard. Retired in 2007 as a MSgt. My experience and contacts in the AF led to a federal LE career with INS and then the USMS. I travelled all over the world and got to do some interesting things. Yes, it also sucked at some points but I was usually surrounded by good people going through the same stuff so it’s all good.

security forces is pretty easy you either sit at the gate, sit in a car on the flightline and keep watch. I've personally havent done anything theyre showing in the video other than to CQB training, SMC, or qualifying with the M4, M18 and M9, and the M249. if you're joining this AFSC to be a cop understand that you as a new airman have to finish your RFM CQ FIRST then once your supervisor thinks you're ready or hit SrA go up for RFL and become a patrol for the base. other than that youre a gate guard or a flightline guard. Not saying all of this as a negative but just want people to understand before joining this AFSC. I love it personally. others might not its just up to you.

I spent 4 years as a security specialist and not once was I A gate guard. Which by the way is not a easy job. Until you walk in our shoes you don’t know what it’s like having that responsibility. Were we the best trained? Probably not. But have you ever had the responsibility of escorting and protecting the most powerful and destructive weapons ever known to mankind in the world’s largest storage area? I have. Daily. I salute anyone who has the courage to draw a weapon and stand a post, day in, day out.

@@ajaeellis3755 These videos make Security Forces look action packed. When in fact,, it's a lot of sitting in a vehicle on a flightline or standing post on a gate for 8 to 12 hours, being vigilant for potential threats to US Air assets. In a typical 8 hour shift, it can be 7 hours and 55 minutes of pure bordum and 5 minutes of excitement. But that can depend upon what post you're on or which location you're stationed at. It can be tough for some people. But the SF career field is a very good career field. I got to do a lot of fun training and deployments. But mostly, I got to work with some of the best guys and girls the Air Force has to offer. I also got to work closely with Special Operators from other branches of service to civilian Police Officers to Swat Officers to US Customs and Border Patrol. And Secret Service Agents a couple of times. So in 30 years I got to see and do a lot. But it takes a certain mentally to stay in a career field like Security Forces. That's why I say that it's not for everyone.

I am a Former Security Policeman 6 years Active/9 years Air National Guard and I can tell you I wouldn't trade my time in the USAF Security Police for anything. I was stationed at Dyess AFB for 3 years in the Strategic Air Command..we had a squadron of B52D's..4 Nuclear uploaded on alert at all times. As an A1C I was a Sentry on uploaded B-52's or on a Boundry. I was a ART/SRT member and also a Fire Team member in a Armored Vehicle (we had 6 Fire Teams on Alert at all times).When I made Senior Airman (Below the zone) I qualified to be a Entry Controller and an Alarm Monitor in the Priority A area's. We also had 3 squadron's of C-130's. I did Fly Away Security. We trained 4 times a year in Air Base Ground Defense at Ft. Hood Army Base against the US Army 7th Calvary Scouts. I was on one of the first EST's..Emergency Service Team's (SWAT) in the Air Force. I got to attend the FBI SWAT School and we got to put on EST training demonstrations along with the Combat Control Team across the street from Security Control. (We loaded on 2 C 130's with a Combat Control Team climbed to 20,000 ft., the CCT did a halo jump. After deploying the CCT the 130's spiraled down and did an Assault landing on a dirt strip. We deployed in our Armored vehicles out the back of the C130's and took the objective, reloaded with the nuclear weapon we recovered from the Terrorists and did a Assault takeoff)!! I was stationed for 1 year in Turkey at a secret MUNSS site. As a SGT...I was the NCOIC of Arms and Equipment for the Security detachment and also the Team Leader for the RRT ( Recapture and Recovery Team) a joint Turkish - American Anti-terrorist Team. When I rotated back to the World, I was assigned for 2 years at Langley AFB, VA to Headquarters Tactical Air Command. The unit I was in is the Tactical Air Command Guard...we were the Security for the CINCTAC (Commander and Chief Tactical Air Command..4 Star General). and I was a Flight Chief (SSGT) for Bravo Flight. During my time in the Alabama Air National Guard I got to go to "Sliver Flag Alpha" in Indian Springs, NV, the USAF SP Desert Warfare and Survival School, I did a lot of different things in the Security Police Field....AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE... except for the time I spent in a Turkish Military Prison..but that is another story! ALL of this was in the 80's and 90's...Security forces today actually do A LOT more!!

A great Chanel that helped me a lot was “ Grammar Hero” and I highly recommend his videos on all the subjects especially math since I sucked at it lol. My first practice test at my recruiters office I got a 35 after that I studied for a month a half and I got up to a 60 again and at meps I got a 72. Practice practice practice you can do it just make the time for it and it’ll be easy. PS. Don’t be scared of the test its a lot easier than you think especially if you study, God bless and good luck buddy.
@isiahz
@isiahz 2 жыл бұрын
I can’t stress it enough, study everyday too! Do one subject for every day. Since the AFQT has 4 subjects and you have a 7 day week of course. Just keep cycling after the 4th subject. Make at least an hour and a half dedicated to studying. Don’t try to force all the information in at once because you won’t retain it. If you can ace math knowledge, paragraph comp. , and do *decent* on word knowledge, it is more than enough. I’m not that great with arithmetic either. Since the highest score you can get is a 99, see that each section can contribute to 24.8 points. In order to score a 50, you need to do great on 2, but since it’s not guaranteed, you need to make at least 3 decent plays to score around a 50-60 (which is ideal for the Air Force). Again, good luck!

Like ALL the MPs do this same exact shit, the Army/Navy/Marine Police units do this same shit with a different backdrop. I mean that's like saying "being a cop is boring" when 95% of their work is writing tickets and doing paperwork, shit I've known cops that retired at 25+ years that have never fired their weapon in the line of duty. I mean SF isn't = an 11 in the marines and no one is saying they are, so why do people hate on em so much? I mean if standing post sounds boring AND you have no interest in actually making an effort to get a more exciting job then just go be a maintainer lol I'm sure those guys LOVE being undermanned and overworked.

@@mgsxmike I was a tail gunner on the B-52. When that career field was terminated I had to choose another field or get out. All the other flying jobs were taken by higher ranking gunners so I chose L.E. Back then you actually did L.E. related work. I was sent to Traffic Accident Investigation School, I worked K-9, worked with SPOI (Security Police Office of Investigations), JDET ( Joint Drug Enforcement Team) and before I got out I had a stent with OSI (Office of Special Investigations). When I was on flying status I was treated very very well. When I cross trained into L.E. It was very different. S.P. (Security Police) were treated worse. The above mentioned things I did were only for L.E. Now a days you have to compete with everyone. Your days off will be filled with training. More than likely you will be stuck on the flight line. You won’t see patrol probably until you hit E-2 or E-3. This also depends on how fast you pick things up as well. Generations also suck. Standing guard on an Airplane for 12 hours is not fun. Some bases also have DOD police so your chance of patrol is slim. Do yourself a favor STAY AWAY from this career field. Get a guaranteed flying job like Load Master or Boom Operator. You will thank me for it. Since I was a tail gunner on the B-52,I had 50 cal experience and wanted to be a door gunner on the helicopter. I couldn’t initially when I cross trained. Right before I got out the job came open. My commander said the job was mine if I just stayed in. My then wife said nope. So I got out. If you enlist that great. Be smart about it. Enjoy your enlistment. Like I said the best jobs in the Air Force for enlisted in my opinion are the ones on flying status.

@@cheechaaron1611 Alright then you go young man. The best thing I can advise is to separate yourself from the rest of the pack. Get your 5 level (or whatever they call it now) out of the way as fast as you can. Do well on all your studies. I went to traffic accident investigation school. One of the hardest schools I’ve ever been to. If you are able to go I suggest go. If they offer K-9 jump on it as fast as you can. Just remember SEPARATE YOURSELF FROM THE REST OF THE PACK. Oh and stay out of trouble!!! The Air Force will open a lot of doors for you. Trust me if it wasn’t for the Air Force I wouldn’t be where I am today. Good luck to you and thank you for serving. I don’t know you but I’m very proud of you. It takes a lot to volunteer and to serve. If you ever need advise just drop me a line.

Off the top of my head USAF Security Forces(who you’re watching)have snipers and counter snipers. If you look at the role of a sniper in the various law enforcement agencies, thats the best comparison. The USAF has a Advanced Designated Marksmen (ADM) course. But what about being a sniper do you like? Does the “Reconnaissance” part of a snipers job sound enjoyable? Do you want to jump out of a plane at 35k feet, landing deep behind enemy lines, in order to acquire the intelligence that the team needs to execute the mission? What about playing with, and I mean this literally, the USAF’s highest-end “toys”? Yes? USAF Special Reconnaissance is for you. SR as it’s known is the nation’s and the USAF’s newest special operations career field. From the USAF: “It's the job of Air Force Special Reconnaissance (SR) to provide it - any place, any time. These Special Warfare Airmen deploy by any means - from airborne, maritime, or land-based platforms - deep behind enemy lines to collect and exploit key information, develop targets, and tilt the battlespace in our favor.” If you want to learn more, there’s a KZbin channel that HANDS DOWN has the best AFSOC content: @onesready

You have to show interest in things and be a reliable individual to get into schools. You can be a marksman in special warfare units, but security forces offers cpec which is a counter sniper, and sniping school. You can then get tasked with working with dagres, ravens, and or trf units
