Cincinnati currently is known as the Queen City. But more than 120 years ago it was known as Porkopolis. The city was the center of pork processing in the mid-west. In the area of the city just north of down town there is a section known as Over-The-Rhine. It was originally settled by German immigrants who originally came up with Goetta. Due to the fact that there was such a large amount of pork available, it was seen as a way to preserve it and stretch it all at the same time.

I grew up eating goetta and we used to make it from beef and steel cut oats. This was a lot of work because you had to keep stirring until it was done. I live in North Carolina now, so when I'm in the Cincinnati area, I buy 10 pounds of Glier's Goetta to take home and we freeze it in patties. We eat it with eggs for breakfast. Yummy. I wish it was available here because I really love it.

Awesome video, I'm from Northern, MN and found out about Geotta a couple years ago from my sister in-law from Northern, KY. I can now safely say I stock this stuff in my freezer and order it 12lbs at a time through the website. I can't live without it now. I wake up in the middle of the night craving the stuff, waiting patiently for breakfast to cook some up. I hope it makes it big time where it goes nation wide. I think it would be a huge hit with a heavy marketing campaign with sample stands setup in grocery stores.

Hey, Tim. I am also a train fan. I use my Lionel O scale as part of our Christmas set up. As well as leaving some out year round. Now I am going to see if the Wal-mart here in Fargo has Goetta. Thank You.

Gliers also does some great deer processing in the fall. They don't make deer goetta though. Great summer sausage. bestdeerprocessing.com/
