Nobody talks chain stretch/wear retarding the timing. The last Cloyes I installed in a 5.0 Ford was 2* slack in 5,000 miles. Definitely use the 4* advance keyway.

That's still the end goal. I just don't have much time these days. Plan to do the 351 right before I drop it in. Didn't want to rush that along

Right on. I just picked up a 351 short block and hope to have it done and in my 77 short box by next spring. Still finishing the AOD rebuild and 4.11 swap this spring and hope to be running 13's next year.

im sure it will! what has really held me back is the header issue. they dont make any factory headers and i havent done any research yet on someone getting long tubes of some sort to work.

why would you not want to check your tappets?

Hey Thunderhead, Castanza here. Have a valve/rocker/spring issue here. I have one on my sbc that's not moving, I tightened all the way and gives me very little movement, and loosened it and same thing. What gives? Not sure if I have a stuck lifter, bad cam, I checked push rod and it's perfect. Any thoughts before I take it apart? Noticed it because had a tick on start up after work. Temp here is 65.

If you have a flat tappet cam, I am thinking wiped cam lobe. Oldschool stuff requires a zinc additive or this can happen. Does the noise go away when you adjust it??

+ThunderHead289 it's a 1985 305 came out of caprice, and tick happened one time 5 weeks ago and then today. Tick does not go away with tightening.
