In this video I explain why your timing chain cover keeps leaking after replacing the gasket or revealing with silicone.

I got a top timing chain cover leak on my challenger 3.6l. It barely leaks on top of it down to the front wall of the Valley. I first thought it was the oil cooler housing, I changed out the oil cooler 2x with different ones. Still had the leak. After watching this video, It definitely tells me it's the timing chain cover. It's a tiny leak. A drop or less everytime I drive it. Aslong as I drive it easy and not step on gas hard, the leak is very minimal. Thanks for the info on this Video.

So well done. Thank you. I was upset when the dealer said this needed to be done. I will make sure whoever does it (not me!) will do it right.

The motor mount that is attached to the cover doesn't seem like a good idea.

I'm about to do a timing chains on a 3.6 GMC Acadia. The timing cover has been leaking for years. This will be it's first timing chain job, but in my opinion the Factory GM/AC Delco RTV doesn't hold up. I'm thinking of going with Permatex Ultra Black, but I've seen they have a purple synthetic RTV specifically made for Full synthetic engine oil applications aswell. I've never seen a review on the purple RTV. Since I only use full synthetic on my car was wondering if you've ever used it or do you recommend a good RTV. Honda Bond or ultra flange 2 seem good, but in the instructions on the Ultra Flange you have to mate the parts almost immediately within 5 minutes in order to get proper sealing if not they tell you to start over and remove the RTV off the surfaces kinda odd. I'm doing this in car so it's going to be a mission. I've heard toyota and Moper RTV is good. Just want the most synthetic oil resistant RTV since this will be a nightmare to redo. BTW the timing cover leaked after warranty period was up, but the GM service adviser said they had plenty of 3.6 come in for leaking covers to get resealed so to me the OEM RTV doesn't do well with fully synthetic oil. Thanks

@@GoogleIT-qp7mk Ultra Black is great, but I did email Permatex support about the purple RTV and apparently Optimum black max flex is a step above the Ultra Black or the Purple RTV. I plan on using the most oil resistant RTV made to resist Full Synthetic oil and Permatex said the Optimum is the best. I kinda did what your about to do a year ago with honda bond, but it didn't work. I didn't back it off I just cleaned it real good with chem oil cleaners and break clean then worked the HB in let it set a full 48 hours. The oil still seeped through 🤬. If you noticed on other disassembly videos of the cover you have to pry it off and there is a groove all throughout the aluminum matting surface that the RTV has an extra space to build up a more durable barrier/seal. Unfortunately unless you completely remove the Cover and prep the surface your never going to get a good seal especially if the oil has seeped passed all them grooves. If your lucky it will hold for a bit, but eventually leak again. I was thinking of just doing the reseal, but since I'll already be there and I'm over 135K miles I might as-well change the chains/guides etc with OEM parts. Cloyes has some kit's, but from what I've seen and read online chains are coming apart at under 5K. Unfortunately they started outsourcing to China unlike the made in USA with US steel and QC they had before. I'd rather pay a bit more and get GM parts. Yup I tried all the miracle oil stop leaks AT205 Blue Devil you name it and they didn't work since it's just RTV instead of a real gasket. I really wish GM just designed it with a metal/rubber gasket from the get go 👊SMH. Not sure what year or miles you have, but I do believe GM adjusted the warranty for this on some models 10 years or 120K miles which ever comes first. Hopes this helps. Let me know if your plan worked🤞
