This is the fourth lesson I have listened to and exactly the one for this moment in my life. About two years ago I made some poor decisions; I was resentful God did not rescue me. Now I see His hand in the most gracious and spectacular ways; this lesson increased my understanding. Thanks!!!!!!

I’m grateful for Tim sharing his gift and loading these videos up for the people of God to learn and grow. Thank you Lord for leading me to The Bible Project that has been instrumental in my understanding of The Bible. Mackey’s work launched my journey as a student of the Word. Thank you.

The last 5 minutes of this talk is Tim pulling up a mirror in front of our faces and asking us to examine how we really feel about God and what we know about Him. Let us grow up in Christ. Very convicting. Thank you.

One word of caution on this message based on my past mistakes: Do not confuse being INDEPENDENT with being MATURE. As far as I know the Bible does not call for us to be more independent from God. Everything I see points to us depending on God to meet our needs. Granted, our idea of what we actually need may evolve - we might not always NEED God to manifest his presence or power in a particular way though we might WANT that. However I would caution, from my own experience, don’t fall into the trap of thinking you’re so mature in your own strength that you don’t need to rely on God anymore. I was in Bible college, felt distant from God, and shrugged it off as “well earthly children become more independent from their parents so maybe this happening with me and God is okay?” This attitude was part of a slippery slope that led to me gradually forming my own independent ideas that were not aligned with scripture and had severe consequences. Praise God, he showed me grace and mercy and he set me back on the right path -a painful process that I’m humbled by and grateful for. Throughout the Bible, including later on in Gideon’s story, I see God needing to humble His people because they develop pride. God provides for their needs and then the person takes credit for it -like when Gideon took credit for winning the battle. Much better, in my opinion, to be one of God’s “needy children” than to puff one’s self up like I did, thinking I don’t need God as much now because I’m more “mature” now. We will ALWAYS need him, but as we mature, our DESIRES will align more closely with his will.

Such an unlovely view of children and parenting. Look to cross cultural studies. Our culture screws up, children are repeatedly stressed out of their minds and fall apart, and we just take it as a phase and laugh about it. Probably feeding them a lot of horrible end results of cruelty too, which is evil and is destroying the planet they will inherit. Would be nice to see a more mature Christianity. Did Jesus mock children or treat them with respect?
@Trollololman1112 жыл бұрын
Are you saying kids are always pleasant and easy to tolerate? I mean is anyone ever ? Even Gideon who used God’s sign to get courage to hack the alter even he eventually failed God and He lacked nothing from God. Obviously it’s us we are the problem and it all points to us needing Jesus Christ. One year later nothing has changed we need Jesus Christ. And 2000 years into the future we will need Jesus Christ.
