I have an old sony camcorder with the little tapes. I’ve started looking for a new one that I can copy videos onto my laptop. So far I’ve had to send them to a video service company and get them converted to mp4 format so I can copy them. Had old reel to reel home movies that were copied to a dvd (not mp4) & then the reel to reels were destroyed in a flood. So now I’m worried about any losing videos of family that have passed away. But it costs so much to get them converted. It adds up.Since it sounds like you have this camcorder, my question is would this be a good camcorder to film home movies and transfer onto the windows 8.1 laptop? Yes I keep things until they die. My mother is 87 and has cancer and I would like to start reordering her answering questions about her and her parents’ lives. Maybe attach an external microphone so we can hear her better and stand it on a tripod to keep it still. So many old home movies that my grandmother took in the 60s moved so much it made me sea sick 🤪 Sorry to ramble on but there is no one to give true recommendations like taking a used car somewhere to get a non biased opinion before you buy. Thank so much.

I do want to point out that I’ve always been told microphones are an after thought on camcorders. Their might be a difference between consumer and pro models. On the pro end it’s expected to use dedicated sound equipment and edit them together in post. Also you pointed out a usb inside by the screen. That’s likely the multi port for a remote control to zoom and record functions.
@kishascape Жыл бұрын
Yeah that USB port is normally how it’s done on camcorders and there’s plenty of models that put good mics on.

I enjoyed your review - it's hysterical. I don't do streaming. I do professional video, and I usually use a Panasonic GH5. I've used the camera for over 8 years for filming things that I know I need something quick and automatic for. (Some documentary materials etc.) But I just want to update. You can buy chargers for the batteries. I've never charged using the AC cord. The camera has a WB setting (not very professional but it's something) and if it's not on a tripod it actually stays fairly stable without a gimble. But again - I don't use it for streaming so I can understand your frustration. The one problem with the camera is that at this point (after 8 years of usage) it has developed a problem in which after about a minute of filming a black screen appears on the monitor and tells you "Error occurred. Please Turn Unit Off and Then Turn On Again". Extremely frustrating. Is it fixable? I don't know... I decided to forget trying to fix it and buy something new... But that is a real downer...

I have no problem with the review itself as there was some very good info and advice in it. Honest reviews of merchandise are always welcome as it (hopefully) informs consumers on what's out there so they don't make a decision and purchase something they're not going to be happy with. My point was you seem to prattle when giving your review. Some people do that just to lengthen the review, feeling that longer is better. Some just don't know how to structure their review so the viewer is fully captivated by the wealth of knowledge being passed along. And then there are those who wander off and have to find their way back to what they were originally trying to convey. Just some personal thoughts on the matter, hoping it helps to improve the reviews posted. After all, we're all human and can constantly improve ourselves, myself included.

The menu turning off while the screen is flipped is not a firmware bug, its a feature. I have other camcorders from Panasonic and they all have this stupid feature. They had this feature even over 10 years ago. I guess that adjusting the camera in selfie mode on a tripod is a use case that Panasonic does not care about. I see this as part of my daily squatting routine in the meantime. Stand up, turn the screen, adjust with straight spine bent forward, turn screen back, squat down. Ok, lets to 4 more reps in this set. Luckily the camcorder will forget manual focus settings all the time to ensure that I stay fit.

Even if I need long form i would consider an HDMI capture card and record into a computer and not have to worry about time limits. I just picked up 2 Fujifilm cameras for $250 a piece and a lens for $130. If you would prefer to stick with a semi affordable camcorder, then I would lean you in the direction of a Sony AX53. Though its manual options are pretty limited it is very trustworthy for video on the run.
@jordanharkness4 жыл бұрын
@@LegacyStudio It's actually for my wife, a teacher, who must switch to synchronous learning online; about 3.5 hours of on-air time. So similar to a streamer, with no production crew, she needs an easy to operate "web cam" but with superior quality video and audio as kids need to see the books and tools she is using. Very similar to a streamer showing product. I have her setup with OBS, and Elgato HD60s. The camera will be semi-permanently mounted facing her, must be easy to operate and be able to pass through audio through the camera (I do not want her to have a/v sync issues). I'm trying to keep this low-budget and because my gear is all Nikon dSLR/FX, I haven't made the jump to mirrorless... I don't want to re-invest all of that gear just so she stream during covid. A cheap camcorder is probably the solution for her... Do you think a Sony or Canon Wixia would be a better choice than this Panasonic?
@LegacyStudio4 жыл бұрын
@@jordanharkness I've heard good things about using the vixia line but I haven't tested any myself. Just recently I tried plugging my audio directly into my camera and feeding it through the capture card about 2 weeks ago and I found TERRIBLE sync issues. I fixed it by using an audio input device like a behringer us204hd or an audiobox USB and taking my audio through that separately. I'll release a video early for you so you can see how to fix sync issues with a little work. But my experience hasn't been positive with sending audio through the HDMI input. At least via the Camlink system. Hd60s may be more positive.

@@LegacyStudio Thanks, that is truly helpful. Yes, I have my own audio setup through an AudioBox 44vsl for my XLR mics. Also, I'd like to have the manual controls (aperture) more handy. Another problem is, when you shut it off, you do not have the option to save your manual settings. Really annoying.

Hi there, can you tell me if the Panasonic HC-V770 allows you to record within the camera and livestream at the same time?

Nice video! Gonna use my HC v770 for my webcam. You seem to have a different menu (for example, I only have 6 pages and you have 8). I'm embarrassed to admit that I can't find ANY firmware. What is the date of your firmware? Any link? (I think I bought this 5 years ago. It's a wonder that the price is still similar!) Thanks in advance!

Hi Tim, couldn't agree more! The audio settings could be much improved, and you have to read that large manual! Takes a while to learn. I have an HC-VX870K, do you know how it compares to the Sony FDR-AX53?
@LegacyStudio4 жыл бұрын
I have the AX53 and I personally really really like it, though I use the Panasonic for my every day recordings in studio, the AX53 has a lot more customization and features. So if you had the choice between the two I would go AX53 or AX63.
@papapaul6814 жыл бұрын
But how you use it as a tether?
@LegacyStudio4 жыл бұрын
Tether as in as a webcam? Look at my other videos on best settings for the HC-V770 and i go through the whole explanation from top to bottom to set up an HDMI capture card to the camera to get the best video quality for streaming through OBS.

I got my AX53 used around the same price and that is an excellent camera. It has its own quirks too but a lot more options. So if your looking at camcorders then See if you can get the Sony AX53 or Sony AX30-something... It may be the AX33? I dont recall the model number...

For professional stuff you should have bought the 4K version of this, the HC-VX981 which has some of the features you’re missing in that one.
@computerjantje2 жыл бұрын
bullshit. The HC-VX981 is also not a professional camera. It is also just a consumer camera. I use the HC-v770 professional as video is my main income. Yet these cameras are not professional camera's. For some gigs I rent professional cameras. My guess is that you have no idea what the difference between a consumer camera and a professional camera is. But that said, You do not need 4K. 4K is another price class of camera's. You only need 4k if you are a bad cameraman needing to crop in post production.

I have a problem with with plugging in my mic - Audio-Technica AT2020USB+ Cardioid Condenser USB Microphone to this camera. Mic is not being powered from the camera/ The camera recognizes there is an external mic connected, but the mic is not powered by the camera. Is there anything I can do to make it work. Maybe it's a silly question, but I'm not professional. Please help me. I'd be very grateful.
@LegacyStudio4 жыл бұрын
So your trying to connect a USB microphone to a camera directly? I personally have never heard of that. NOW. What I have heard of is connecting a USB microphone to your computer and connecting it as an audio source through OBS and using your camera as the video source. That's what I do all the time. See if that helps point you in the right direction.

@@LegacyStudio Thank you so much for the so quick replay :))) I'll try it. But wouldn't be there a delay between the audio and video. and if it will how to fix it?

There is a way to delay the audio to match the video. I personally have not needed it myself. But I know the feature is there if you do need it, though I can’t exactly point you to where to find it.

Is it possible to shoot in 60fps and convert to 30fps and still get the audio in Sync ? I am from India. Here we get a PAL system model with 50p and 50i. I need to get my final documentary output in 25fps for television broadcast. Is it possible ? any chance of audio sync problem ?
@LegacyStudio4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm I dont think you would have a probem with that. Good question. Because your cutting your video by half then I think you would be ok because it would simply evenly remove a frame here and there to get you to the 25fps timeline. Usually that wont effect your audio output.

Eye-opening review. I want to upgrade from my 2012 Sony PJ710 but will probably pass on the Panasonic V770 after watching this. I am considering the JVC GZ-RY980, which looks like a good camcorder, but there aren't many online reviews of it. I'm also giving the Sony AX 53 and the Canon G21 and G40 a hard look.

@GlitzGlamTVProductions4 жыл бұрын
I understand your gripes..but the problem is, this particular model is clearly targeted at the consumer level..someone who just wants to pick up the camcorder and shoot it "as is". Hence why the manual controls/custom features are left to be desired. Unfortunately, for what you are asking from a camcorder, you won't see until you spend double that or more on a more professional line of camcorders. All that aside, I think the image quality is pretty good and should suit the needs of most game casters. However, I will say that it is indeed strange that the camera only allows for 60fps.. VERY strange indeed. While this camcorder might be marketed towards game casters, why alienate the camera from a greater volume of sales by allowing for AT LEAST 30fps. I personally wouldn't purchase this camera for that limitation alone.
@jonathanaarnold4 жыл бұрын
Wait, it can't do 30 fps? Might have just nixed this for me
