Arabian Nights usually the only people who complain about “diversity hires” are right-wing pundits attacking companies trying to decrease the homogeneity of their workforce. Usually, the so-called “diverse” hires are, at least on paper, qualified to do the job they’re being employed for. In a capitalist system, you don’t hire someone who isn’t going to be able to do their job correctly just to tick some imaginary diversity box. Look at the prices on the announced cards and see when they started a downward trend. That's the point when the information was announced to those in the know. Same thing happened with fetch lands in Khans. You note that the prices started to trend downward more than a month before the official announcement of fetch lands.

Word is that Wizards-Hasbro already had this set 'on the shelf'. Makes sense if Wizards are planning reprint sets 12mths in advance. So Double masters was definitely known as early as Feb20. This May announcement may be when they're starting the printing presses? Depending on when Wizards commissions art before a set releases, say 6-9 months, Wizards pretty much decided this in Aug-Nov20 last year. I'd say possibly around Oct19 when they got a good idea about the reaction to the Collectors boxes (which appear a substitute for these Masters sets) that they probably planned in Oct/Nov18.

Thank you for addressing this, it has been fairly rampant recently, I've even thought about doing some analysis too, it almost seems like people at the printers have either family members or friends that are interested in magic and pass that information along. If i had time I would probably try to do some forensic stuff on videos people put up because you can see in their mtg videos that they usually make a comment or spill the beans about a location or a friend, or a friend of a friend, etc.

I think the leaks are pretty easy to track when they hire pro players and put them on design teams, they clearly are leaking to other pros out there. I also know Jimmy Wong and Josh Lee Kwai from Command Zone get deck lists months in advance before public even knows the themes. You can even see the singles not in the decks that fit the theme go up in price ahead of the deck list is released especially the foil versions.

I'm guessing that many leaks come from the printing/warehouse side. The people at Wizards HQ will most likely be fairly well-paid and won't want to see something they worked on end up screwed. But if you're someone packing boxes and carrying crates and see $1M of cardboard each day, you don't give a damn or earn much either. What would be interesting would be to see the dates of those emails and compare that to when cards get printed.

Similar thing happened when Khans was about to be released. Gencon 2014 has rumors about fetchlands getting reprinted and dealer were specifically not buying the onslaught lands. The word on the floor was that overseas translators get this info early and releases it back to people with overseas connections.

Most of the people on the inside with this info probably have a minimal investment in the game and don't actually understand the meta. When you get buyouts and sell offs, odds are that those are the few people who are in a position to act on that kind of info.

Wizards of the Coast should be publicly disclosing a reprint schedule as soon as they are confirmed internally (i.e. well before knowledge moves to any outside companies, printers, etc., & probably well before most Wizards employees know). They don’t need to disclose new cards, set names, or anything else, but a calendar showing reprint card names & expected release date should be regularly updated. It will also help to stabilize speculation as the future schedule is known & reduce price manipulation/advantage of those receiving information first.

There really isn’t a non disclosure atmosphere at wizards. People know people, and they want to be liked or they want others to feel like they are important. Employees play the game, Artists play the game, Celebrities play the game, and when you have this many people playing and a part of the creation or presentation of it, inside information is going to get out. I remember getting full list of reprints months in advance so people could buy low and sell high, but that was before the era of buyouts.

@@fenrirthedestructive4422 Not necessarily. Just play a different format or different decks. I cant afford legacy so I don't play legacy and I'm ok with that. I played modern with budget decks lacking fetch lands for a while because I enjoyed it and didn't have the money, and it was fine. The only reason I stopped is because my local mtg community felt a bit toxic and WOTC's current way of doing things isn't what I'm interested in at all. I think many cards could use effective reprints, but that isn't really happening either, WOTC just wants your money. I'd like all formats to be cheaper and more accessible, but we also need to accept that some just won't be. Think about golf, clubs and memberships can be expensive, but it's not too hard to play casually just for fun. To get everything for it and the kitchen sink though it'll be pricey for sure. Just like fishing with a boat versus just having a simple rod and fishing from the riverbank or lakeside. It's all about what you get out of the hobby in comparison to what time and money you can afford to spend on it. I don't like gatekeeping, especially for stupid or social reasons, but price of cards is just kind of a fact right now and for the forseeable future, and again WOTC doesn't care about giving you good value any more, they'll just try to disguise an expensive product as good value or as a good reprint. I've moved away from magic for the time being because I'm not happy with it, and I'm enjoying other things instead. It may be best for others who don't like it to move on as well.

My guess is that these people who sent the emails work(or worked) for distributors, got advanced notice and were just trying to pass it on. Wizards probably was going to announce the product earlier, with possibly a June release date, and then the virus became an issue and production got delayed.

Remember that this stuff is usually printed 3-6 months in advance to guarantee quality and to make sure that wizards can market it with distributors by providing product mock ups. I'm going to guess that the card names provided are guesses. 1 or 2 from the list won't make the final product.
