That's a DCI Legend membership Counterspell. Islands are miscut Arena league promos. Both cards feature the same "set symbol", the M from Magic with a circle. Those Islands are probably worth a fortune

Thanks for sharing. I know so little about cards printed after 95 🫣

In the old days we tossed miscuts in the trash.

Japanese OS meta is quite interesting. They focus more on aggressive and quick plays and care less about control and card advantage. It's pretty different than western way of playing. Also I agree with their reprint policy - a card is a card. While the classic look is well appreciated and is part of "spirit" of Oldschool Magic, the new prints of old cards are functionally the same.

Ironically, actual old school play was aggressive and few players played with cards like Disenchant.

It's def interesting to see the differences. I think it's also influenced by the rule set. They play Eternal Central, meaning 4 strip mines and they play with FE, giving you access to Hymn and some more aggro creatures. In general, you see more aggro style decks in EC tournaments.

@@TimmytheSorcerer best ruleset imo, Europe should try adopting it. Strip Mine is the perfect response for Factory, which sadly invalidates anything below a 2/2. Also there's 4 Workshops, I love Workshops lmao
