Rear Hatch Window / Glass Replacement (3rd Gen 4runner)

My rear window hasn’t worked in 3 years. This video was exactly what I needed to have the confidence to tear it down myself. I was able to identify the problem because of a 2 second clip from this video that showed the correct orientation of a part I couldn’t find in ANY other videos or forum searches. My window now works! Thaaaaank you!!

A heater core replacement might happen one day, but probably not in the near future. Somebody local to us that needs this done has to contact us or one of our personal rigs has a heater core issue.

Defroster wont work if the glass is not fully closed. I would check the Glass run if its fully seated.

Thats why you dont help people who are stuck. YOUR shit will get fucked up, or the asshole you "rescue" will sue you when their shit gets fucked up. The world is too litigious these days to actually help someone in need. Sucks you had to do this job. Thanks for the education in case something ever happens.

You are right the world is too litigious, but I would still stop to help someone stranded. If I was worried about being sued, I would have never invited the dozens of total strangers to my house to perform jobs on their vehicles creating content for our channel. It's a risk I'm willing to take. The guy my buddy Wei helped ended up being a jerk though. He promised my buddy he'd help compensate him for his broken window and then wouldn't answer his phone when Wei called him. Total Douche. So, Wei did pretty much help an undeserving person. The least he could have done is compensate Wei for the price he paid at a PicknPull for the used glass. Oh well, at least we got this video to share on our channel. Thanks for the comment.

I had to replace my hatch glass do to rust, it was literally falling out. Anyways, there was a wire for defrost that attached the the glass on passenger side.

Yeah, we reconnected the wires but the defroster doesn't work.

Did you check the fuse? (Sorry, had to ask). That said, I think I've used my rear defroster on my car once in 20 years.

There's not a dedicated fuse for the rear defrost that we could find. It must be part of a larger circuit.

@@TimmyTheToolmanFWIW, on my old toyota it's a 30 amp fuse located on the inside, under the driver side dash. It's labeled "DEF". Good luck!

He has a 99-02 radio bezel surround which requires some wire modding. Probably why the window defroster doesn’t work.

That's a possibility, but it was working before the glass replacement.
