Nice! Very thorough in-dept step by step explanation. I see you edited out the cursing and banging your head against the wall dealing with the parking brake assembly. LOLOLOL! I cried for about an hour with my attempt. Like I said, it took me 4 hours. But yall made it look easy in the video. Definitely will be purchasing the adapters from Duane, I saw them used in another KZbinr's video. I took mine to a machine shop the first time. Experience can only get you so far without the proper tools. Keep cranking out great content TTT.

Thanks for the compliment. I want to do a parking brake job on one of these rigs using an SST to compress the hold-down spring when putting the shoes back in. I've tasked Duane to take a look at it to see what he can come up with.

Thank you for this Great video. I am working on my daughter's GX460 now... Had to come inside for lunch and to watch the install portion of the next video to make sure I install everything correctly. Great video, watching from Australia. Masking tape on the hand brake shoes during re-assembly helps keep the pads clean and free of contaminants whilst reaching in to set those tricky springs. Great to see you always try and use a special tool rather than brute force. Keep up the great work. If you have any advice on where to purchase genuine workshop manuals that would be appreciated. They are not available in Aus.

Hey Tim, thanks for the tip with the masking tape. That's a simple and genius tip. I could have used that trick the other day. We just shot a parking brake video that showcases a special tool to make the disassembly and reassembly of the parking brake much easier than what we showed in this video. I ended up getting grease onto the shoes with my dirty hands. That video will be coming out soon. If you have an older Toyota, check on Ebay for the FSM books for sale. That's where I bought mine for my 1998 and 2000 4runners. But, at some point (don't know the exact year), Toyota stopped making the physical books. The information is all online and you have to pay for access. The website it called Toyota Tech Info. When I'm going to be working on a vehicle I don't have a book for, I pay for a 2-day subscription for $25 and I download all the information I need for the job. The site says you need a Windows based operating system to access the site, but I have heard people had success using their Apple desktops and laptops to download information from the Toyota Tech Info website. To replace an oil pump, it's a combination of what entails to do a timing belt job and the removal of the front differential so you can drop the oil pan. We have videos for those two things. Unless we get a person needing to replace their oil pump, we probably won't be making that video.

@resche7767 You don't need to remove the whole engine if you get the front differential out of the way, as I stated in my first response. I wouldn't pull the engine.

Thanks for another awesome video Tim. Did you try the Wits-End front axle seal tool for this job? I figured you did since you mentioned it in your video. I can vouch for that tool, it makes the front axle seal a breeze! Someday I hope you get the chance at doing an upgraded steering rack for the 5th Gen. Given what Marlin has done with RCLT, why can’t we put the LC200 rack in the 5th Gen? Anyway, thanks for another great video! Cheers Mike

Thanks for the compliment. I did try the Wits End seal driver, and it doesn't work for the rear axle seal on these rigs. As for an upgraded steering rack, Solo Motorsports has one for the GX470. They modify a Tundra steering rack. Maybe they have one for the 5th Gen.

Great video thanks for all the detail. I have a question on my pole 7 Tundra 5.7 be passenger side seal leaked gear oil into the bearing. Is there any way to grease the bearing It's very difficult to find the passenger side axle assembly. I did find a loaded axle assembly by dorman available. But I am assuming that even though the bearing is tight and fine be replaced?

Gear oil intrusion into the bearing will wash away grease meant to lubricate the bearing. With different style bearings, like on a 3rd Gen 4runner, you can pry up the dust shield of the bearing and manually pack it with grease. With these types of unit bearings, I don't think you can pry off one of the sides to grease it. I would suggest replacing the bearing, because if a significant amount of grease was washed away by the gear oil, the bearing could overheat and fail in a dramatic fashion leaving you stranded.

Thanks for making such a great video. What would be your thoughts on cutting the backing plate, retainer and bearing with a grinder and cutting disc? A backing plate is around $30 so not a loss especially in rusty areas?

I'm not a fan of cutting parts off due to the chance of cutting too deep and ruining the axle.

There is a very large nick in the axle where the c-clip goes, it is not ruined. You don't have to cut very close as hardened steel is brittle and easy to crack, but yes very careful with a dremel tool.@@TimmyTheToolman

@@darrenm3682 It all depends where the damage is. If it's under the area where the retainer seats onto the axle, it could be a pathway for gear oil to get past the seal.
