Tim, same for me. My buddy at work sang it to me every day for 25 years. I loved it though. Tongue in cheek. Really a great song.

Freeland? Jeddo Boro? My father's family is from Jeddo. I was a friend of Bill Kelly at King's College. Bill was so poor as a student. He struggled through lean years as he and the Buoys made their #13 hit "Timothy". The group later transitioned into "Dakota". May Jerry, lead guitarist of the group, and my Jeddo Boro brother, rest in peace.

Guess I was lucky growing up in West Michigan. Our radio stations played this a lot. Loved it then, love it now

Let's give all due credit to The Buoys, later Dakota, who made this song a hit. Lead singer Bill Kelly, along with lead guitar Jerry Hludzik (may Jerry rest in peace) and other band members, successfully recorded this song which rose to #13 on the charts circa 1971.

Yep. Grew up in the Burgh also, and this song got plenty of airtime. Was one of my favorites.

I was in kindergarten when Timothy was on the radio. I thought it was cool that there was a song with my first name as the title. It wasn't until I was an adult that I realized the subject of the song was so brutal. Growing up in Pittsburgh too I think I remember this playing on 13Q AM a lot.

I grew up in Kingston PA during the 70s and we all loved this song in High School. I liked that we had a local band make the big time, but I didn't actually know what the lyrics were because I was hard of hearing. A friend spelled it out for me. "Wait, what???" I said. LOL

I was 10 years old when this song came out. And it freaked me out. It was played a lot on the radio. About the same era another intense and gross song also came out and was big. It was the song D.O.A.

My copy of the 45 had a picture sleeve which had a letter written by a child who wanted to know if Joe and the other miner ate Timothy or not. I wish I still had it. It wasn't banned in S. Florida since it was played on WQAM.

Sorry about the other previous comment I was trying to say that I am apologizing for my other comments factual inaccuracies but Google's terrible voice recognition messes me up again anyway Rupert Holmes was not responsible for sad eyes that horrible song was foisted on an innocent public by Robert John a similarly named purveyor of bad songs who was active in that same era still I do believe that the Pina Colada Song and him him him give mr. Holmes plenty to atone for while Timothy is still a great little song hate or love it

Very interesting to contrast this milked-for-laughs rendition with the legit intensity of The Buoys' recording. Kinda reminds me how Frankie Laine sang "Blazing Saddles" to the verge of tears while recording it.

Another creepy 60s tune was "Son dont go near tbe Indians" I had no idea whats the problem till the lyrics said, " because OnaLee is your sister." At seven years old I had no idea what the hell they were talking about my brother's clued me in Cannabalism and incest ahh 1960s America what memories hahaha

Mister Holmes feel no need to atone for Timothy which is a catchy Tune full piece of high 70s Bubblegum much beloved by the ghoulish little bastards at my elementary school including me however if your conscience keeps you awake late at night you have my permission to hate yourself for such Cosmic slabs of toxic s*** as the Pina Colada Song the deeply annoying him him him which also promotes the unhealthy habit of smoking cigarettes and the deeply sociopathic sad eyes in which Mr Holmes makes a number of sleazy justifications for discarding his temporary side piece who is probably driven to suicide in the process when you consider these other songs Timothy is really the most wholesome and likeable song this messed up individual ever wrote
