The world is a mess and this 'society' is and always was an absolute joke. We are living such unnaturall and unfulfilling lives it is beyond belief. Every time I leave my home, I am spending money. whether it is the petrol in my car or buying lunch or groceries, you can't avoid it. I do plenty of walks in my local area, but it has become so mundane and boring. Nobody talks to one another anymore. I pass people every day, they just look blank and expresionless. All the shops and 'architecture' is drab and soulless, looks the same everywhere you go. All the classic buildings have been 'remodeled' or torn down. Everything costs a fortune. We are being surveilled everywhere we go. Overregulation is rampant. Not much to enjoy about life these days at all and can't believe this is the way things have gone as we stood by and allowed it to happen. I hate it here these days. All I want is some human connection with like minded thinkers and to live a peaceful and happy life tending gardens and helping one another, but it is an impossible dream.

I think a lot of people are stressed beyond measure due to our own personal circumstances like debt, living above our means and the government can’t always bail us out of everything we are knee deep in also with the world at war and people letting life take a toll on them all you can do if go hard to get yourself into a better financial situation and save. The society of the United States is based on Capitalism, i.e. consumerism and competition. The ‘system’ is not forcing us to choose what is important in our lives. I don't understand all the scarcity mindset going on these days. There people thinking we're going to run out of everything (jobs, gas, oil, food, housing, land, money etc). Life is complicated, and many of us grew up thinking there were certain other people who really knew what life was about so we followed their ideas and not so much our own, which we devalued in favor of the "really smart ones." You are right about quality of stuff these days. One example is how little younger people care about quality furniture. The real woods aren't used to make anything anymore and I know people who can't even sell those items. Young people just want Ikea stuff. Where I live the rents are crazy. I honestly don't know how an average family can afford to even live. I'm single and it's tough for me. I've had to scrimp a lot.

Personally I adopted a David goggins mentality years ago and never indulged in the typical "western civilization" lifestyle once, mostly because I couldn't afford to which I am thankful for. But today, even with my salary, being frugal, it doesn't add up. I'm 40, tired of working 80 hours a week just to scrape by. None of it makes any sense to me. The days are coming of just going back to a small condo and just living life how I want to live it, or as you have put it, how life SHOULD be lived.

finding this video is crazy because I was just contemplating this yesterday. you hit the nail on the head. no mater what we looked forward to in life is not what it panned out to be. even people like Jim Carey makes videos on how empty being wealthy is ,witch is something many strive for. but he turned to his art work and I have not seen any art from him in a long time. its like who cares any more. after almost all of my family passed away life has now taken on a new meaning. I am a tourist in life now. I take photos and video of life. I am now focused more on the small things. the naturel world or things that are Americana. I may start painting again. but till then i am just drifting around with my camera.

I believe we love the people we love because they become our strength and make our insecurities seem less significant. So part of what connects us is that vulnerability. Ironically we run away from our vulnerability and bolster to avoid it. Trying to escape the pain that life is only exacerbates it at times. Loving acceptance of what life is easier to bare. Dont subscribe to societal norms that dont fit with your values. Stick by those values as long as your prepared for any potential consequences of that imo
