Thanks for showcasing the smoother, more snappy side of this synth. Most demos make it sound like a chainsaw coming from the bottom of a well.

@@defjeff2907 even more hyped now :)) i am still a newbie to synths, can i connect the microfreak with the typhon through midi and have them synced that way and also process the sound of the mf with the typhon? so far i guess that should be correct. but more important, can i send sequences played/created with the "keyboard" of the mf straight into the typhon? asking cause the sequencing of the mf looks way easier to me then the one of the typhon

@@surf_machine I'm new too, 7 months ish. Sync out from the MF to Typhon works via midi, I have not processed sound through it yet. Yes, MF sequences can send via midi to Typhon. I really enjoy your videos. I would like to have your opinion for a set to do techno / trance uplifting. I was thinking of the Elektron combo, but these machines seem so complicated to handle that it turns me off a bit. There are also Roland products, Mc 707 / TR8S and the Tb 3 which seems to be not bad at all. Watching your videos, I am impressed with the result of your tracks, they are of a very high quality. Maybe no need to have Elektron and Roland after all. Thank you in advance for your feedback and advice.
@reasons41713 жыл бұрын
Watching someone show you how to use a machine can make things look more difficult than they actually are. In other words, you’ll understand the machine and learn to use it very quickly and easily once u get your hand on it. You’ll get the hang of it quickly. Of course this is not always the case but I would say mostly thats what happens. Don’t be intimidated by elektron products
@PHOENIX-fb1cf3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your answer. It is true that Elektron products impress. Huge potential, but not easy to get started. But, at some point, you have to take the plunge.

Tim, are those sliders with red LED or just red transparent plastic? It that highlighted? Because retail version in the US comes with ugly plastic with white line and not nice as on video.
@TimShoebridge4 жыл бұрын
Hi, The sliders have red plastic, they don't light up, if they look like they do in the video it is a trick of the lighting. I just checked the Dreadbox site and the photos are a mixture of red plastic like mine and the newer style like you mention. I have no idea why but my guess would be availability of parts.
@hoagy_ytfc Жыл бұрын
@@TimShoebridge I shouldn't read the comments - I bought a new one this week and the white marks on the sliders didn't bother me, and now they do after reading this thread, oops :) Great synth though. I wish I could mount it in a Eurorack. I realise it's not (semi-)moduler, but it'd be just convenient for my space to have small synths like this in a Eurorack case together.

Hi Tim. I’m awful at math but… If you set your BPM at 40 and set up a 24 step sequence and programmed a note on beat 1, then silence for the next 3 steps then repeat, would your ears hear & count the resulting 6 tones at 10 BPM ? Sorry if this notion is pathetic Mark

@@mikel5163 a hardware synth is not only the sound. It's a physical object, and the experience of using it is part of its characteristics. Otherwise there's always plugins. But if I'm buying a hardware synth, the minimum requirement is that it should be a nice experience to use.
@blpfrk4 жыл бұрын
@@mikel5163 do you own or tried the synth at all? I had it, and it's not the loudness, it's the feel of it. It's the main knob, that you have to you use all the time. It's like rotating a corroded gear mechanism from 1920. Now if you don't care about it, it's totally fine. But it's something to be aware of, it can be very annoying for some users.
@blpfrk4 жыл бұрын
@@mikel5163 there are some synths with great UI. Elektron units in general are pretty good, even though they can be overwhelming in complexity (some of them). I find the Nord Leads to be simple and easy o use, mainly because most every function is right at your fingertips. The UDO Super 6 is excellent, beautiful and also most everything is right there, no screen, but also deep. Then the Waldorf Iridium is one of the deepest synths out there, but the UI is so good that it feels easy and intuitive when you use it. On the other hand you have great features and sound power on synths like the Jupiter Xm, but then the UI is pretty bad with that tiny screen where all you see is lists of parameters and some of them you have no idea what they do unless you read and memorize the manual. Some companies make horrible decisions or they just don't understand how important it is. Yamaha is another company that pretty much sucks at UI. Synths are instruments for musicians, when they are feature rich, is when they need professional UI designers the most to help them create the best experience for the users.
