Jeff is the perfect example of sneaky good. He’s not ripped or super athletic looking like Tim, but he motors around the court with his 5’4 frame to near perfection. I noticed Jeff’s wrists and arm is perfectly loose, and he doesn’t seem to tense up, so he can direct his shots very well.

Jeff is my favorite kind of tennis player. The type of player that, back when I was playing in the juniors, I would disrespect even after getting my butt kicked 6-2 6-3 in some ntrp event. On the surface, the technique, body type, etc all disguise a really great game of tennis. Sneaky athletic, good footwork, reads the game very well, hits the correct shot as the point dictates, just a really, really good tennis player. And his backhand is excellent. The other parts of his game may look a bit awkward, but the backhand is sublime. Never rushed on it despite facing some great shots with pace, always able to place the ball where he wants with angle or depth. A tennis player's tennis player.

First! Happy holidays to all of the TxT fam :). That was a grueling match. Jeff’s backhand timing is amazing. I am amazed at the accuracy of his shots, he doesn’t leave many balls in the middle of the court. Tim, your backhand slice has definitely improved, but perhaps it’s more effective against taller players. It was a tight back and forth match, could have gone either way. I didn’t see many backhand down the line in the highlights, maybe hitting that and coming in behind it against a player like Jeff could be fruitful.
@tennistim
@tennistim 3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha about time you reclaimed first comment status Jun. Yeah Jeff's backhand is incredible, which forced me to change my usual tactics of attacking righty's backhand. His forehand is no slouch either, takes the ball on the rise and gets some great angles. Good point on backhand line, will consider that for next time

Hey Tim, I’m a full time teaching pro and I just wanted to say that I think your slice backhand looks great but I think that you could get a bit more depth and penetration on it if you finished a bit higher when you hit it. The few points where I saw your opponent really attack you were when you left your slice just a bit short allowing him to come in off of it.

Hahah thank you, it's honestly 70-80% diet and only 20-30% exercise. Too many people have asked, so I guess I have to drop a video about this in 2021. Generally, I weightlift 2-3 days a week and play tennis 2-3 days a week, so alternate working out and tennis each day with one rest day or a day focused on stretching/mobility bc I'm inflexible AF (sometimes more depending on how my body is feeling) each week

Nice match! Jeff has good technique and is consistent, which you could guess from him being a coach. I think the issue is you didn't move him around enough and you allowed him to come to the net a lot, which seems to be a strong area for him. I agree with you on your serve return, should've been more pressuring throughout and really going for it, especially on any second serve opportunities. In general, you hit the ball harder and had some very good winners, but if the groundstrokes aren't as consistent as the opponent or just going down the middle, that pace won't do much good for someone at Jeff's level. Good fun match though!
