Thank you for the video, succinctly explained. My issue is the 'apply" button does not light up, so I can't make any changes when in strip silence.
@TimTalksAudio3 жыл бұрын
I would make sure you have an event selected. If you only have a track selected and no events, the apply button might not be available. You're applying the strip silence to the events, not the tracks.

Hi. I'm helping my dad edit voice over audio and learning how to use Studio One as we go. I really like your teaching style. Can you do an all inclusive video for voice over so I don't have to go hunting for separate categories such as strip silence and de-essing? Thanks.

Will this work for mic bleed? I'm trying to reduce or strip the other's person voice from coming through on the audio track. We are using two microphones in close proximity and because of that we get a lil mic bleed... Will this get rid of that? Please help thanks.
@TimTalksAudio3 жыл бұрын
It can. When singer “A” uses their mic, you’ll get and see a louder signal. When singer “B” sings and you hear and see that on track “A”, you know that is your bleed. You can strip out singer “B” when singer “A” isn’t singing, but if they are both singing at the same time, you can not remove the bleed. Mic positioning will help reduce bleed in tracking as well, so if you can move them a little, that will help.

is this available in the prime version?

i just subscribed bro, my question is: How can i go back to my previous audio state? strip silence did something wrong
@TimTalksAudio4 жыл бұрын
Just Undo! CNTL+Z or CMD+Z. If you did it a while ago, you may need to go back in your history to recover the vocals. A workflow tip that I use, is to duplicate the layer first this way there's always a hidden backup layer of the full vocal.

Would u recommend using this feature to "clean up" intricate guitar metal patterns?
@TimTalksAudio4 жыл бұрын
You certainly could, but be very careful to not cut to much or to hard, or you may get too robotic of a sound and not a tight “djent” sounding guitar.
@wickedemperor4 жыл бұрын
@@TimTalksAudio thank man! Not really into "djent", but I see what you're saying...
@jenniferpaul5755 жыл бұрын
What do you do with all the blank spaces after you take out the background noise? Doesn’t it sound choppy without inserting some silence or something?
@TimTalksAudio5 жыл бұрын
I leave them! At the start and end of all the chopped events, strip silence can put a very short fade in and fade out. These will make sure there no clicks or pops in the audio. If you are experiencing noise coming in and out, my guess is that the recording of the track was noisy. Also, all of the other elements in the mix, should help in masking any subtle noise from a single track.
@TimTalksAudio5 жыл бұрын
You could also bounce the newly striped track to make one continuous file!
@jenniferpaul5755 жыл бұрын
Tim Talks Audio thanks for getting back to me! That is awesome! What do you mean by bouncing it?

@Skejtboard4 жыл бұрын
Why not just call it gate? With attack and release? Any difference?
@TimTalksAudio4 жыл бұрын
A gate needs to detect signal to trigger the attack and release times accordingly. With strip silence, the computer would scan the audio file based on your threshold. The pre and post buffers, along with the minimum event length, would then remove unwanted sound. Think of it like a gate is active and strip silence is passive. One needs to be on the whole time and the other only needs to work when you tell it to.
@Skejtboard4 жыл бұрын
The passive/active was a perfect description. :) Thanks!

What if you don’t have strip silence. Do I have to upgrade?
@TimTalksAudio4 жыл бұрын
If i remember correctly, all versions of S1 should have Strip Silence. The button to open the menu is on top, to the right of the editing tools, but the left of the quantize/timebase sections, so the center of the screen. The button you want is to the left of the "Q", the "block space block" button.
