It's been 4 years but I still visit this specific video for home studio inspiration. Meeting Tinashe a few months before this was made (vid of this is on my channel) & getting to sing with her as a teen was inspiring too, it instilled in me a sense that it was possible as a young women to compose fire music at home xx
@guidryjoseph449 жыл бұрын
Don't get it twisted, that Black UA Mic preamp and Neve preamp (next to the computer) will make your vocals shine like a diamond lol...She's right. You don't need a million dollar studio with all that outboard gear to make a professional sounding track but those pieces of gear are not cheap.
@bryanhall85959 жыл бұрын
joseph guidry hahahah way to keep it 100.
@DryIce0019 жыл бұрын
joseph guidry True. Everything's relative. But her vocal chain from what you can see in the video is easily $10k+... U87 $3600, UA 6176 $2500, Neve 1073 $3500, and you can't see her interface but any decent interface is at least $2k lol
@bryanhall85959 жыл бұрын
Andrew Chow question. with the amount of high quality hardware im guessing acoustic treatment can be kept at a minimal?
@DryIce0019 жыл бұрын
Bryan Hall It really depends. Acoustic treatment is a very underrated aspect of a studio, in my opinion. Each studio is different in terms of room size and layout. Since it seems she's only tracking vocals, in a bedroom studio there are some things you can do to keep it at a minimal (i.e. the little vocal shield like she uses, strategically placing "sound deadening material".. like drapes and blankets). Now, if you plan on mixing in that kind of an environment, it could be to your advantage to invest a little bit more money in treatment. All that being said, you'd be surprised what some artists have released in rather moderate recording setups. I heard Noah Shebib say on Pensado's Place that he and Drake tracked almost all of "So Far Gone" on the road and in hotel rooms. So I guess to answer your question, yes and no lol.
@bryanhall85959 жыл бұрын
Andrew Chow I watched that one! he apparently went around asking for material. and actually thanks for the help. Im also under the impression that an outward compressor for vocals is a must? is this true and if so what kind of compressors or brands do you suggest? you seem to be very knowledgable so i figured id ask.

Battle Entertainment Yep. But that's just a one time purchase price. She's still saving a ish load of money if shes doing all of her recording and editing at home. That equipment paid for itself after she spent a few days using it. Perhaps she's used that compressor and mic at a $200 an hour studio with excellent results. It would make sense for her to stick with that same ish. Nipsey Hussle did the same ish for a mic and compressor he used at a professional recording studio. He asked the engineers for the name, model, settings, etc of the compressor and mic. Then bought the same ish for his personal studio. Saves a lot of money to record ish at home then watch the clock at professional studios. Besides, one doesnt need to spend all that money on a microphone and compressor/limiter. I used to call recording studios and talk to engineers who worked on certain quality albums/songs to ascertain mics/compressors used. Most of the ones that were mentioned were priced less than $400 brand new. One doesnt have to spend $1000s on a mic and premp. Just like one doesnt have to spend 1 million or so on an SSL console with 80 inputs and a Studer tape machine. Those days are in the distant past. Most hit records are done in the box.

I see all these comments about how her setup is very expensive and all of that but I don’t think people realize that she probably did not start her home studio with all of that equipment. She most likely didn’t start with that 3000$ microphone and that fancy keyboard thing. But when you release good music that people like, they buy it, and you make money. With that you can buy better equipment. Y’all need to think of that.

Please can you give me your studio and buy another? I am from Africa and you know how Africa is?

Africa isn't bad at all, Africa is made up of hundreds of countries, some but not all countries in Africa suffer from poverty and famine so stop generalizing. He ain't sending the studio to you bruh, this man just said that he'd go car less before he give up his studio, what makes you think he'd give it to you?
