Attending My First Warhammer Tournament! 🏆

I attended my first ever Warhammer Tournament!
I didn't manage to finish my models in time meaning I had to withdraw sadly, but still had an incredible day and can't wait to actually play at the next one in September...

Haha, in my experience against Orks they end up tipping the whole 5 gallon bucket for their rolls - hitting on 5's, so they then have to find the 5's in the millions of dice.

When I went to my first I was kinda disappointed. I'd put 100s of hours into painting and prepping my Space Wolves army, while 95% of the guys there had either hastily slapped paint and decals on their armies, or didn't even bother to paint them at all (just applied a few stickers). My army did get a lot of attention, and I did a painting demonstration on a couple Ultramarines for one guy, so that was cool.

We're doing our first league for Warhammer which I was worried I wouldn't have my stuff painted in time thankfully tho this league is beginner friendly you don't have to have your army painted yet which means I can take my time painting my space wolves either way I'm super excited to get into warhammer

I entered an under 16 tourney about 30 years ago. Me and my Ork army smeshed them all, including my friend making him cry. I ended up winning and won a couple of tickets for Golden Demon. I went with said friend so all worked out.

Maybe a little brighter than the sun! It's because it's a HDR video and if you're on a HDR display (basically any of the latest gadgets) your screen brightens up to handle HDR content. It will do that on all HDR content.

I'll take the Emperor Enlightenment explanation! But more realistically I think it's because my footage is HDR and the S22 Ultra is a high end phone which can handle HDR footage - when modern smartphones play HDR content it significantly bumps the brightness so you can see detail in the darkest shadows and the brightest lights... ...or the Emperor has blessed this video 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@TinBearStudios I just pull a MiniWarGaming move and have it displayed over the top, with an additional camera showing the dice, and maybe one set up for a cutaway that shows both players and the field from a pov perspective That's the only way I can see myself setting it up, deleting over lapping shots that would be unnecessary and what not in editing

@@TinBearStudios be prepared to pay almost 300 for everything as each game only gives you 4 factions with half there units missing so they make you pay for dlc for each faction and to get the rest of the units,lords, and heroes for the base game factions

@@apolloknight9521 it's not out for me to actually check that but I feel like it doesn't as in the previous games say you buy the wood elves dlc you don't get access to the wood elves proper just a faction that exists in the Empire I think but that would be good on CA's part of that's true as it take away from them being just another greedy company but it would seriously cut into say WH1 sales if they let u play as the Empire, Greenskins, Vampires, and Dwarfs

I will say, I really enjoy playing against tau. As an astra millitarum artillery specialist (usually using a couple of proxies because poor) I find it very fun to beat the tau at their own game😂 Haven't played a proper tournament yet, but still the guard bassalisk is one of the best guns in game.

Ahh yes, the bright eyed days of a fresh Tau greenhorn... I remember those times. You'll have much more fun than I did. I grew up on 5th ed Tau rules... Times were tougher for us back then. Godspeed good sir!

@@TinBearStudios back then we didn't have overwatch, our infantry had no reliable support options to increase their durability beyond a 4+, and our firepower to points cost was pretty inefficient. For example, a full 12 man fire warrior squad used to be 120 pts without any upgrades, the same points value of space Marines would get about 8 marines, who would be more durable, and thanks to that armor, actually outshoot us. We would also have a higher chance of breaking via leadership checks because Marines 'shall know no fear'. The defining Tau advantage wasn't even really our guns, though they were impressive, they weren't too far beyond the pale once you saw past the hype. The biggest advantage Tau had was deep strike capable weapons that could wipe out entire squads of marines/terminators in efficient unit costs. It was technically more expensive for us to field meltas and plasmas, but we were able to get large quantities of them in smaller squads... IE crisis suits. So even though we technically paid for 6 weapons at a higher cost than Marines could, we weren't paying the equivalent points in a tax for additional bodies to go with them for minimum squad requirements... Or paying for the extra drop pod transport, etc. We had minor advantages in how our points were allocated to our units, and slightly longer range to compensate for our abysmal melee game... So as long as we could maximize our alpha strike capabilities and stay ahead of enemy shots per turn, we could come out ahead. But damn if we weren't really pushing our luck by the time we finally got our codex update. The games changed a lot since those dark times. We aren't nearly on our back feet like we were back then... Assault is a lot less scary now that we can field more shots more efficiently. The tide wall fortifications are probably the biggest strategic game changer I've seen, moreso than the big suits like the storm surge.

Just a little tip: just get your army battle ready (base paints + wash + basing). after that you can slowly built up your painting sceme and add stuff like highlights as desired ;) gl!

My first and only tournament in 2012 was a disaster and has put me off for life. First up my brother misread the rules and so we thought it was 600pts of just 1HQ and 2 Troops choices. Obviously we were allowed to add to that. Secondly, I had to build and paint both armies. Not a big deal, but stressful and to find out we coulda had different models was annoying. We lost first 2 games badly. The third opponent was allowed to solo the duo games with a 1200pt army against our two 600pts. And he also knew the people running it so was allowed a non WYSIWYG army that was only half built and less painted. And this was at Warhammer World. I aint ever going back. I still collect and paint but have never had a game since, totally ruined it for me.

I play Ultramarines and am currently 0 and 6 against my buddy who plays tau. Though I am getting better with my tactics. Relic terminators and a chaplain in terminator armor have been a blessing.

@@TinBearStudios it's those stormsurges and riptides that keep getting me. I've become very aggressive on the board, pushing my melee units deep into his deployment area, problem I had last game was that I didn't have a decent amount of anti vehicle models and the available terrain in the store was sparse. His first round, he took out my hellblasters, heavy intercessors, and 1 eradicator. (Ouch...) I took out 3 of his breacher teams but wasn't able to teleport strike my terminators near his stormsurge, so I went after his right flank with the riptide. Failed 1 charge but succeed on the other. Second round, he took out 2 intercessor units, 1 relic terminators unit, and my warlord (which I found out afterwards he wasn't suppose to be able to target him......) I managed to take out 2 more of his breacher units and his riptide. 3rd round, he wiped out my remaining forces with his 1 stormsurge.

It sounds like you're getting it against Tau so definitely just a case of practicing, your strategy seems good! But yes you need to make sure there's enough terrain against Tau, you can't let us have firing lines across the board as that's not fair on you and won't work in your favour - but it sounds like a fun game regardless and Stormsurges aren't that impressive if you target them (and they can't really hide) so I'd get that down as quickly as you're able for sure - Eradicators would tear him up! 😊

Yeah, I played my first competition a couple of months ago, just a friendly one at local game store. Only 8 of us doing it... Anyway, I played Custodes, probably one of the best experiences I've had, came last, enjoyed it tho. Just got steamrolled by Deathwatch and Dark Angels, nearly won against Death Guard tho... End game objectives are cruel!

I might be doing other tournaments, but I only started playing a year and a half ago, so not very experienced and not really got a very ready army. Only just got 2k point.

The only factions that have decent counters against the T'au are Space Marines, Necrons and Imperial Guard (if you play their battle roster right. Emphasis on long range artillery, heavy armor and using a lot of defensive positions.) Orks can also be useful, but you need to have some tough elite units and some fast attacks to close with the T'au and force their biggest guns into melee. World Eaters Chaos Marines, with an emphasis on Khorne Berzerkers, Raptors, and some armor to provide some semblance of ranged suppression, with a Demon Prince or some other elite/heavy melee forces like Bloodletters, can mess the T'au up. T'au isn't OP. Its only "OP" to people who are one trick ponies and have no luck with their dice rolls. And ultimately don't know how to fight against other factions with particular strengths and weaknesses.

Men don't feel bad sometimes that can happen,and don't ever feel discourage to play Tau because of what others say,i hate playing against imperial guard because every player sounds like a dick most of the time so don't worry about

Thanks for the reassurance! It was still a really fun day. Yeah I've played Tau a bunch since and they're a lot of fun - the shooting phase is sometimes like "Is it over yet" for my poor opponents but I have a good time with it.

Sorry about that, it's because I recorded in HDR and when on screens which can handle HDR they push the brightness of the device really high so they can handle the brightest brights as well as darkest shadows. I've stopped recording in HDR as it's confused a bunch of people! Thanks for watching regardless.

For a universe setting that is mainly focused on melee combat, I'd imagine people would be tilted at a faction that absolutely FUCKS in shooting phase

I had my first tournament just before COVID, was AoS and had never played before, built and painted a army in 30 days, and it was awesome, then COVID hit :(

I can relate, I installed Darktide last night to play the early beta release and it's very good, got it's claws in and I'm just thinking "Do I really want to be going down this path of putting all my free time into this rather than painting Warhammer…" I think the answer's yes, I do, but still 🤣

It used to bother me that others hated playing against Tau, but as I've grown older I've embraced the salt - get a faster army or use cover, stop whining about it.
