Question for you. - When I do the Tinel's test with my hand at normal temperature, no sensation is felt in the radial aspect of my hand. - When I do the Tinel's test immediately after icing my hand / wrist, there is distinct tingling / sensation throughout the radial aspect of the same hand. Is this a positive test?

I don't think my ulner nerve was tested. My test was very fast. How can I tell by the results what was tested. I don't recall shocks around the ulner nerve about my elbow where I was having stabbing pain.

The icing would likely be causing the tingling as that is one of the stages of cold as a modality therefore it wouldn’t be a positive test especially if there was no tingling sensation at room temp.

Magee's reasoning behind tapping distally to proximally is to determine at which location has the median nerve been regenerated. As you tap proximally, the segment that elicited numbness or tingles sensation is where the nerve have regenerated to.

You said it’s the Hoffmann Tinel’s sign. I can’t find any article that confirms that. Instead, Jules Tinel is mentioned. Please kindly address this.

The test is named after both Paul Hoffmann (physiologist from Freiburg) and Jules Tinel (neurologist from Paris). Just google it and you'll find a lot of articles about it :)

There are a lot of weak tests out there. They can still be useful, for example coz there are no other tests for a certain condition. It's just important to be aware that they are not very accurate and have their limitations

It's always a combination of items from patient-history taking and special tests, as well as pattern recognition. Have a look at the cluster of Wainner which (although not validated yet) can give you a good idea about the presentation of CTS. And you're welcome.
