I'm looking at this dog and I'm just thinking "She looks exactly like MY rescue Pittie and her name's Penny too". My Penny was a Pitbull that was found without a back right leg, bleeding out on someone's front porch on a reservation. When they called the local dog rescue and they asked if it was an emergency cause they were in the middle of helping another dog, they people on the reservation said it's not that bad. When we ended up getting Penny about 3 months later, we could tell she had been hurt badly by someone. She was terrified of men, couldn't stand having someone hold something in their hands when around her, and would just startle at every little thing. She had stabs wounds on her neck and we found out she was caught in a snare trap and she chewed her own leg off to get out. She was about 20 pounds underweight and you could count her ribs. My heart just broke the moment we got her home. I just looked at her and thought "Who would do this to a puppy?" We figured out she was roughly a year old when all this happened. So now we have an injured and traumatized dog on our hand. It was really hard I'm not gonna lie. There was days none of us thought it was gonna work and that we were a bad choice for this. But it paid off. 2 something years later and this dog is one of the most playful and pudgy dogs I've ever seen! She has rolls for days, especially around her neck. She's got like, 5 chins on her. She LOVES stuffies but destroys the things in under 5 minutes, but she has the best time doing so. And it's honestly the cutest thing in the world watching her and my dad rest foreheads with each other and just look into each others eyes. He's her human and I honestly believe they are soulmates. She's just always so happy to see him. Everyday. There is still bad days where she's afraid of her own shadow, and there probably will always be days like that. But that's okay. Because every other day, she knows she's safe and loved and that she won't ever have to go back to those old days. It's so rewarding just being able to watch her and see how happy she is now, when you compare her to the lost and afraid dog that we started off with. It's the best feeling in the world. Though I wish my dad would stop feeding her treats in the middle of the night when no one's around. :')

It’s a trap but fostering helps save 100's of animals from being PTS. It is hard and it sucks seeing then go to new homes when you have built a bond with them. But you take that sadness and pour your heart into the next animal that needs you.

MsPhillyG my very first rescue was a foster fail as soon as she made it into my care lol. To me, she was what I considered a perfect dog (like all are with guidance and patience) absolutely adored children of all ages, strangers never met a bad one. She was eager to meet people, and just knew what to do to make herself not be a intimidating to those who were scared. She'd crawl so slowly to kids and carefully roll over for belly rubs. She even helped me rent my first home, the owner was firm about no pit bulls, or other dangerous dog breeds. I begged please, just meet her just once and see what a good dog she is and he melted like puddy lol. When that dog passed (cookie monster) I think he was just as upset as I was, he even bought a little headstone for her which shows the true power of a dogs love.

I love what she said about the dogs at the shelter are not the dogs you're going to have. We have two shelter pups that transformed from scared, sad, dogs. To thriving, happy, active dogs and it's so rewarding. They are also older than most people like to adopt ( 3 and 5) and they have learned so much! I used to volunteer at a shelter and everyone would judge the dogs based on how scared and rough they looked at the shelter. Our 5 year old dog was almost 30 pounds underweight, of course he changed. I hope that people will start to realize how amazing these dogs are and how loving they can be. ♥️
