Without KZbin, I wouldn't be fiddling with power saws either. I saw my first ported saw on KZbin, and I was hooked as well. To be truthful, my lifetime of experience has been on heavy on highway trucks. Had a trucking company for 10 years, I was an employee wrenching and driving before that. Then opened my shop in 2008 and added machining in 2018. I watched Leon from Leon's chainsaw parts and repair on KZbin get really frustrated with a little carburetor. You don't know frustration until a truck comes in off the road in the winter to do a clutch and there's a big PTO hanging off the bottom of the trans with salt water and slush raining and slopping down on you with the owner telling you, "I need that truck Monday morning and it's Friday night. A power saw will NEVER EVER frustrate me after going through that and much much more!! I ain't complaining mind you, it's the profession I chose, but as I get older it's getting harder that's for sure. Take care Tinman.

Nice work Tinman. I use tweezers to put in the needle bearings. The torque specs are easy to find in the Machinery's handbook. I like McCullochs using heavy-duty bearings. That is what keeps the saw together. One thing that get me about the McCullochs is that the extra effort needed to work on them. A bit on the extra steps to do side. But each saw manufacturers have their own quirks of assembly.

I've always had the most success stacking the bearings in the rod 1/2s and using STP to stick them in place rather than grease.... And the STP works better cold(refrigerated) also much easier to clean out than grease and is an excellent 2 stroke assembly lube!

Maybe talk to some cart or bike builders about pipes with expantion chambers, just on a smaller scale. It could take some of your ported saws to another level.

Speaking of using lighter parts, I had 2 junk Husqvarna saws giving to me. A 36 and a 141. I built the 141 but used the lighter flywheel from the 36, then did a little grinding on the 141 piston to make it lighter. I shaved off about 2 grams. I don't know if that will help anything but it can't hurt, I didn't grind in any stress areas. I really like tinkering with these saws even if they ain't 372's or 395's. It's still fun for me. Thanks for the inspiration.

Tinman there’s a company called Millenium in Winnipeg that repairs and re-nicacils 2 stroke cylinders. They do nice work. Also, if you miss your numbers on those crank bearing bores a hair you can use a film of green cylindrical bonding loctite to lock them in place vs. moto-seal. Keep up the good work!!👍🏻

@@johnarnettsways.8758 you may want to get in touch with Dan, @ Kain Kustom Garage, here on youtube, he is a wealth of knowledge on old saws! As well! And remember “ a gear drive runs the other way , while a direct drive follows in line!” So a gear drive motor runs clockwise while a direct drive runs counter clockwise, during assembly of your recoil starters.

I don’t see a lot of piston porting and scalloping, a lot of these timing numbers can be reached by modifying the piston.

The procedure for the main bearings is to install half in the rod cap and half in the rod using Vaseline then install. The first time I did it I installed all on the crank which was a pain!

It's going to lose torque with the lighter flywheel and gain rpm. I believe the flywheels with more fins came on the electronic ignition saws and the less fins on the points saws.
