Thank you for the detailed information and a great video presentation. I purchased the 250 series for my lathe and didnt understand the 250 004 as well. My boring bars did not fit. I will do the modification that you described. I have a T slot on my existing tool post so I milled the plate supplied down to fit.

Found „OXA Wedge Type Tool Post Set“ on ebay. Is it exactly the same as the one you are reviewing here („Machifit“)? Same manufacturer, just differently branded?

Yes lot of chance it come from same manufacturer

Something I do when set screws are small & get used frequently is replace them w/ socket head cap screws. This provides the same function but use a larger hex, reducing stripping/wear out of small set screws. Occasionally, the heads of the cap screws are too large & need to be turned down. They can turned quite small & not break out.

I have one of these QCTP's on my lathe and bought 6 tool holders with it..........then I bought 4 more.........the problem is 2 fitted OK and locked up but the other 2 would not lock and needed 1mm thick shim on the outer faces of the dovetails before they locked up, so I tig welded 1mm thick shim steel plates around the edges of the dovetails and then polished them up.
@TinC332 жыл бұрын
Great solution, but disapointed that they changed dimension from series to series, otherwise they're great holder for the price, check my other video where i make aluminium holders by myself.
@gangleweed2 жыл бұрын
@@TinC33 I don't think they change dimensions intentionally from one manufacturer to the other in the same series, it appears that the manufacturing dimension vary from one to the other due to tolerances.......it is difficult to actually measure each tool holder dovetail from one to the other as the actual dovetail does not determine the locking point. It is OK if the holders are made in a jig with the same setting, but when different makers attempt to make them the measuring tolerances will vary unless a master test tool post is used at time of making. It would almost seem that they are made and then selected in batches to all fit on one master gage but you can't have holders that are above or below tolerance fitting the same tool post.........don't ask me how I found that out.

That one is for 10mm tool, 12 maximum, for your lathe i'll took a series or two bigger, so you can insert 16mm tool into.

For people who are researching QCTP's, as i have been recently, There is 2 different Part-off Holders ~ 1 - has the Blade angled up to create front clearance - the type you have shown here. & 1 - where the Blade is Horizontal - you grind your own front clearance. The Horizontal type is a better design & fit, for a 7x14 Mini Lathe & doesn't require modification to fit.

Aluminum tool post is a bad idea. Also the piston style. Buy the proper one from the get go. This way, you are wasting money and extra work, by going cheap the first time, and then with the more expensive one. There is a saying, I'm not that rich to afford the cheap stuff.
