I've been using crankbaits like the Rebel Teeny Wee-R, F49 minnow, and Rapala Mini Fat Rap and UL Minnow for well over a decade. Whether canoeing/kayaking smaller rivers or targeting shallows when fish are moving due to deep angling pressure or environmental changes. Frankly, I'm surprised this is a new thing. I'd have figured most anglers would've always tried some light action spinning tackle presentations and techniques if the big/deep stuff isn't working.

Funny you are mentioning the trend to lighter gear. As a northern angler I grew up using a spinning rod and lighter gear. Perhaps the success of northern anglers and the gear we are typically using is making folks take notice. The sport that was dominated by southern anglers with a casting rod in their hand is starting to understand what we have known for a long time. Lighter gear and smaller baits will catch fish in pressured areas when nothing else works. Instead of us trying to imitate them, the tide has turned.

I use the micro stuff for trout and small river fishing.Just found the gnat only thrown it once, but it has good action.My favorite is the arki crappie crankbait!

It's the BFS movement that's fueling a majority of these micro baits. And yes that's a baitcasting technique.

I could see the possibility of a tournament win on smaller super clear reservoirs where a lot of schooling bait chasing Spotted Bass dominated over largemouth, with cast ability being decent on light line. We just might hear of someone winning the ole local Saturday morning dogfight. Always good content from ole Becker the Smallmouth wrecker. #JCMB

Im throwing them with a bfs rod and reel ( kastking baitcaster) 6# braid and 6# seaguer leader great early season so far im using a mega bass 5r-× quiet griffon alot
